Are you worried about the cavs yet?

How could LeBron be number 2 outside his reputation. No I didn't crunch the numbers but I feel like some people below him have better numbers and team record.

Not surprised AD number 1.. If he plays at this level and continues to win on this team, it will between him and Bron for MVP. Will be bullshite if Bron gets it off his reputation on a talent loaded team in the East...

It's still an uphill battle for AD. In the last few decades the award has always gone to a guy on a top team. If the team standings stay where they are now then Gasol or Curry would probably get it.

Not really. His odds are twice as good as anybody besides Lebrons. He is definitely the favorite if Lebron fails to turn it around.

Based on what? Look at the past winners. LINK Notice a pattern? Top player on a top 4 team. CP3 even managed to drag the Hornets to top 4 team status and still didn't get the MVP. The last guy to win it while not on a top team was Jordan in 87-88. So it's not impossible, and would be a portent of great things to come if it happened, but anyone saying it's likely to happen at this point either thinks we'll end up being a top 4 team or they are just ignoring history. It's not like I'm saying "this is how the award has gone the last 5 years", it's almost 30 years since Jordan broke the pattern.

The 87-88 Bulls still won 50 games. I tried to look it up and couldn't find a player that wasn't on a great team. But every time someone makes this point, the guys on here just mock them. It's an exercise in futility to bring it up anymore. People are convinced a guy that misses the playoffs or just gets in is going to snag the award. History be damned..

The historical data is pretty overwhelming. If ADs the next Jordan, that's awesome. But if he isn't he's likely not winning this season.

Based on Vegas. Lebron is a little less than even money. Davis is 7/2. Everyone else is at least 8/1.
Everybody runs on about how it hasn't happened. Guess what else hasn't happened? A guy lead the NBA in PER by over 4 points and not win the MVP. Thats what Davis is on pace to realistically do. Davis is doing unprecedented things. Trying to infer a precedent from Kevin fricking Love is ridiculous.
Nobody has come anywhere close to doing what Davis is doing right now and not win it. Honestly, nobody has really started a season this all around dominant. The notion that he keeps this up and they give the award to some inferior schmuck(anyone besides Lebron) is ridiculous. Its more unprecedented and absurd than a player not from an elite team winning it.

What history? There is no player who's done what he is doing. If he were doing what KG or Love did for the Wolves, sure, somebody would be a fool to expect a different results. He's on such a different level than them that its absurd to even compare. Plus, KD is out too long and Lebron is playing poorly. Outside of that, the game is kind of void of bona-fide superstars right now.

Who creates the odds in a manner that maximizes their money based on current gambler psychology, not what will actually happen. And based on people who gamble and create threads about it this board, you guys don't care about overwhelming historical precedent and Vegas knows this.

I am all for AD being the next Jordan, I don't want him to not win it, but if you're actually going to put money on the line, don't ignore evidence because it doesn't tell you what you want to hear.

History shows that wins matter. Team success matters. Putting up big numbers on an average team has not and shouldnt ever win someone the MVP.
PER is a great measure to use but it isn't the end all be all. Does Davis make his teammates better? I don't think you can say that he def does at this point.

You must have watched about as much AD as I've watched early DPOY candidate James Harden. Between bailing people out on failed drives by turning any pass in the vicinity of the basket into 2 points, he's turned our guards inability to make layups into an actual offensive strategy with his offensive rebounding. On top of that he changes shots all game long, does the "Dwight Effect" not make teammates better players?

Everyone keeps talking about team success, but who's ever put the numbers AD does and hadn't won the MVP award?
If he's clearly outplaying everyone else in the league (which he is) and makes the playoffs (which he should), seeding be damned, that man is the MVP.

Yes Dwight effect is proven just by having Howard on your team you are almost guaranteed to have a top defense. Last I checked the Pels were a bit below average as a team defense despite having 4 starters that are considered good defenders by the fanbase. Davis has a ways to go before he can claim to make his teammates better on defense as much as D12 does. The numbers prove it.
