Trying to get into oil field

Have an ME degree.
Been with a service company for 2+ years in Houston. All in technology/engineering. Lots of design experience with completion tools.
Any advice on moving into a field engineering role? Had a verbal agreement to move out in about a year, but with my employer recently being acquired...that's probably off the table (as could be my job...surely y'all have an idea who I work for lol)

Appreciate it. Why Weatherford as opposed to Schlumberger? Think they're more desperate?
Worst thing out of this...moved to current group as an understood stepping stone to the field. Another coworker does the same thing, but ends up taking international field role the same week...with Haliburton

I would stick around if you can. I wouldn't be quick to jump ship unless you are getting signs that your future employment is not looking good.
Things are happening in the O&G industry relative to the dip in prices. If you have a job, you better hang on to it. I don't see many hiring in the near future until prices go back up to spur more exploration and additional production.

Gotcha.
I'm taking this merger as a sign that the price dip will be more than just a quick one...no way this kind of move is made unless they anticipate it staying low for a while.

not sure about the rest of the country or international, but here in the northeast there will not be a slow down in drilling atleast. all operators are still planning to bring in more rigs for 2015.

If you are good, HAL will keep you. I would say stick it out. You probably have at least another year before things start getting dicey. Worst case, you stay and keep working for a good while and they lay you off with a nice severance package.
Many analysts are predicting a quick bounce back for oil. Not exactly the best time to be looking right now either.

Calm down, Buddy. There are TONS of engineering jobs out there. especially if you have a couple years experience.
I started out in the field running tools for BH. it was a great company, I wouldn't be too anxious to get out. chances are you HAL will keep you on.
If your goal is to get offshore to get experience, it shouldn't be hard. HAL and Baker both have tons of Offshore jobs. not to mention, west Texas and No. Dak.
Anyone who can flash a degree and a knows their arse from a drilling rig should have no problem finding a job there.
