I almost went and ate lunch there today.

I guess this didn't work.

During this grace period, persons handing in weapons will not be pursued by the justice system. But as of early November, controls will begin in earnest on both sides and persons caught with illegal weapons will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It was noted the penalty for possession of an illegal weapon is four years in prison on the Dutch side and five on the French side.

Concealed carry is more effective but yeah I like where your head is at.

May as well throw them out and make rape a Constitutional Amendment then I guess. Because any law that doesn't stop illegal activity is silly in the mind of these Constitutional scholars.

Isn't that the meme? Gun laws don't stop gun crimes, therefore gun laws are stupid?

They are pretty damn stupid. Here in St. Maarten the gun laws would make bloomberg jizz his pants. Only residents over 25 that have been granted a yearly permit can own a rifle or shotgun. No handguns or automatic weapons. 5 years in prison for owning a gun without a permit.

Care to guess what the results are?

Petty crime is at an all time high and gun crime is at the same rate.

St. Maarten seems to be very difficult to get crime rates, gun history, and other info on. Given that it is a Caribbean island I imagine that it has problems with crimes related to several of their neighbors that serious crime issues. Do you have any information from reliable sources (not gunsandammo web sites) to back up your claims?

Just a little bit of personal experience and the 2 hour safety meeting at orientation.

ETA: They had the chief of police on the dutch side leading the meeting.

Good luck over there. Having these split French / other former colonies seem to have a tougher time with crime than most. Are there any successful ones?

How would they be successful? They have more holidays than anyone else and the single mothers get paid a 1000euros a month to not have a job. The men sell drugs to the tourist.

Actually the Dutch and French side is a good comparison in the differences in full on socialism and less socialism. The Dutch side still has some socialist policies, but not near to the amount as the French side.
