I'm a meteorologist so I know about the weather (and that it's COLD in winter)
But as far as a place to raise a family, anyone spent time there?

I would think it would be a great place to raise kids.

The Great Northern out of Cheyenne, from sea to shining sea.

I worked there one summer, thought it was kind of boring. But it's probably close to skiing and stuff. That's all I got.

My experience is limited to hunting in that area, but my impression is that of a relatively small town out west...I find that a surprisingly good resource is just to look at Wikipedia to check the incomes and demographics of an area...

All I know about Cheyenne is that there are beaches there and that they have a bull no man can ride

Toronto Raptors forward James Johnson is from there. That's all I've got.

If I hurry, I can still make Cheyenne

Cheyenne wouldn't be a bad place to raise kids. Wyoming is pretty boring if you're not into ranch/outdoor lifestyle. You're a couple of hours or so from Casper, and I know they do a little skiing in Casper. That's all I've got.
eta: I haven't been to Frontier Days since I was a kid, but I know some people that go every year, and one guy that competes in the steer wrestling. It sounds like a good time.

Very boring but close enough to Denver that you're not completely isolated like you'd be in Casper.
If I were to ever live in that area of the country it'd be Montana for sure. Better in every way than Wyoming from what I've seen.

this is kinda what I was thinking, but it's only 1.5 hour drive from Denver, and some nice towns on the interstate in NE Colorado south of Cheyenne.

Why not Montana? Even Billings. Kind of a shithole but it's the biggest city in MT so there's plenty to do.

Lived in laramie for about a year but visited Cheyenne a few times. Loved it up there. Would love to move back one day

I lived there as a bachelor for several years. Not bad. Just go into it knowing that it is almost the exact opposite of Louisiana. It never rains. The wind is always blowing. It get cold. Seriously. Underline and highlight the word COLD. believe it or not, there actually is a thriving homeless population. Not much in terms of non chain food. It's only 35 minutes from ft Collins and you have a college town with a thriving microbrewery scene if you are into that. Frontier days is cowboy mardi gras without all the titties. Nice people. It is not the mountains at all. You are close enough for a weekend ski trip but a day trip is kind of pushing it. One thing that still stands out in my mind was going to "college" bars and seeing pretty girls dipping skoal. No shite. It throws you the first couple of times you see it but it is a common occurrence.
Overall, I would love to raise a family there.
So you have any specific questions?

I've had a look at the housing market a little on the internet, but as far as cost of housing it seems a little more than southwest LA/southeast TX...are there any parts of town that are very much "no-gos" as far as living?
