Why aren't Republicans talking about the deficit?

Forbes
quote:
In dollar terms, 2014 was the lowest federal deficit since 2008. And in the category most important to economists – the deficit as a percent of Gross Domestic Product – the 2014 deficit was 2.8 percent of GDP, the smallest since 2007.
There are several ways to look at this.
If you’re a troll, you refuse to celebrate the extraordinary reduction in the federal deficit that has happened in such a short time. The only comparable period in U.S. history was immediately after World War II when the budget went from a 29 percent of GDP deficit in 1943 to small surpluses in 1947-49.

To busy getting schooled on shrimp by you and tuba.

If you were $20,000 in debt. And in stead of spending $4000 last month, you spent $3500, would you be happy?
You are still adding to the DEBT. $17 trillion and counting. Why don't Liberals talk about the debt?
I'll start patting your slave master on the back whenever there is no budget deficit. By the way, do you know what DEFICIT means?
An excess of expenditure or liabilities over income or assets in a given period

Even in the thread about the deficit, you still don't want to talk about it.

ETA:
If I spent $4,000 three months ago, then $3,500 the next month, then $3,000 last month and $2,500 this month, it would be a clear sign of a trend toward balancing my monthly budget. I'd still be adding debt, sure, but that's almost irrelevant at this stage. You have to overcome the deficit before you can overcome the debt.
And we are.

What the hell are you talking about?
You ask a simpleton question and want a book report?
Has your leader passed a budget to talk about for this year?
Have repubs taken over the senate yet?

It won't, by design.
The deal has been for years that the deficit will shrink up until 2015, and then return to growing more quickly than GDP. None of this is a surprise, and even if it had been, the long-term outlook shows that there's nothing to celebrate.

Really? Give me a date when we will be deficit neutral and we can start paying down the debt.
So according to the CBO, we are still showing signs of increasing debt and deficit way past 10 years from now.
I ask again, when will Liberals talk about the debt?
Posted on 11/14/14 at 10:23 am to FT
Because they don't give a shite about the deficit.
Posted on 11/14/14 at 10:24 am to FT
Not a Republican, but let me know when the debt starts decreasing. At that point, I'll praise the efforts of our overlords.

Its a loser issues for republicans which is why they don't talk about it.
They have changed the frame of reference to talk about national debt vs. deficit (see this thread, or really any zach post about the economy).
If they talked about the deficit, they would have to give props to obama. They would rather eat dead babies than give obama any sort of credit.
Its all about politics, not what is right for our country.

Has your leader passed a budget to talk about for this year?
quote:No, and when they do, I bet the deficit goes up.
Have repubs taken over the senate yet?

Care to explain the CBO's estimates of increased deficit and debt past 2024? 2015 deficit reduction will continue but by ALL estimates the deficit will increase well pat 2016. Your thoughts? Or does that completely destroy your talking points?
Posted on 11/14/14 at 10:26 am to FT
I agree that this is a step in the right direction, but I will say that we really need to get to where we are operation on a surplus. Then we can celebrate. Operation at a small deficit still adds to the total deficit.

Total debt. Not deficit.

Honestly, this isn't possible without a nearly catastrophic reduction in spending on the poor or an economic atom bomb in the way of tax hikes. The deficit is just too large now. Thanks Obama.

This report was as of February 4, 2014. Try again.

They are setting up the blame obama strategy for 2016 and beyond.
