BR and Louisiana legal market question

I can't find anything online pertaining to salary information for any of the bigger BR firms, as none are listed on NALP. Anyone have any idea what firms like Kean Miller, Jones Walker etc. start out at and if they use lock-step? Equity and nonequity partner salary info would also be great. I asked my career services people this question and they all but laughed at me, so I seek the O-T's guidance.
Also, where would I need to finish in my class to get job a big firm job in BR? I'm at T14 school. Jones Walker's site claims you need to be in the top 1/3 of your class. I find it hard to believe that I could get a biglaw job at a top 10 firm but not get hired by Jones Walker's BR office. Hell, over 70% of last years class at my school went your standard 160k biglaw route.
I only choose to go to school outside Louisiana because I'm getting paid around 50k a year through scholarships and benefits from previous employment. I really want to work in LA, but my benefits wouldn't have been maxed out at Tulane or LSU.

Your TD post count is WAY to low to be taken seriously in a large BR or NOLA firm.

If you aren't in the top 1/3 at your t14 law school, what makes you think you'd get a job at a top 10 firm? Do you already have an offer from such a firm?

Top third is not an absolute requirement, especially if you go to a well respected school. Regarding associate salaries those are pretty easy to find and you could probably get it from the recruiting departments of those firms. Partners salaries will be more tough.

Don't ever, ever let any firm know you sought salary advice on the OT.

First, fix your typo.
This small firm I used to work for in BR started its new associates at $80K. By small, I mean a dozen attorneys and no other offices except the one in downtown BR.
No knowledge of the bigger firms salaries.

Those firms will be 90-95 for first year associates.
Those same firms in NOLA will be right around 100.
Depending on the school, top 1/3 is likely a must unless you are Ivey league. Law review/journal will help. What year are you in?

Calling bullshite on the 160k figure.
Can pay associates a lot less than that, as well as burn and turn them to separate the paper tigers from the real sharks.

Are you black, Mexican, a female, or some other minority? If you're a white male, you better be damn near the top.

I guess BR "big law" is Kean Miller, Jones Walker, the BR offices of Baker Donelson, Phelps Dunbar, and Adams & Reese and, and maybe Breazeale Sachse and Taylor Porter.
80-90 K sounds like the starting number I'd heard the past few years for those firms. New Orleans is surprisingly low considering the higher cost of living and larger offices. I might be wrong on this, but I think it's damn similar to BR. Maybe 5-10K higher (90-95, maybe 100). I believe Proskauer pays the highest, but they are a NYC firm (and I believe the only one in NOLA) and probably hire 1-2 new people a year since their office is tiny. Similar stature firms are hiring at 140 in Houston/Dallas, and as you know, 160K is the number for NYC. Not sure about DC or the CA markets.
No idea on the workloads. I assume someone like Hudson here will have a better idea, but my friend works at a top 10 firm in NYC and generally pulls 75 hours a week. My best friend's sister is at a similar firm and works either 60 hours or 80 hours a week.
I can't imagine the NOLA firms can be competitive paying 90K and expecting the same commitment but who knows? I have way fewer BR contacts, but they seem to work 50-55 hours/week. They are generally under 30.
I'm obviously not surprised Columbia career services is giving you nothing about the Louisiana job market. Most people heading to Louisiana after Columbia are usually the "save the world" types who want to work for a legal aid office for 45K.

Why would they even hire someone that's never read the Civil Code?

Quit law school and do something useful. BR already has one lawyer for every 1.8 citizens.

Job market is pretty tight in La, and BR in particular. 500+ new lawyer just got sworn in, and probably less than half have jobs. Not sure I'd focus only on the big firms, which have been grooming potential candidates for the past few years in clerkships.
