That's the part I don't like. We are pretty much leaving it up to the committee to decide.
The first poll was easy to make for the top 4 because no other team outside of those four, had a good enough win, or good enough win and loss, to be declared any higher. After the regular season ends, the SEC West will have obviously cannibalized itself. Now, do you pick the team that wins the division with two losses (pretty much by a set of tie breaks), or the team that was actually the best one?
Let's say hypothetically
MSU loses to Ole Miss and Bama - MSU 2 losses
Auburn beats Ole Miss - Ole Miss 2 losses
Bama beats Auburn - Auburn 2 losses
LSU beats Bama and wins out - LSU 2 losses
Bama - 2 losses
Five teams sitting at 10-2. I don't care to go through the tie breaks right now, but would the winner of the West really be the best team in the West? Would LSU be better off having lost earlier in the year? Things are getting pretty interesting.
ETA: removed the Arky part, but you see where I'm going with this.

The committee will be disbanded within two years IMO. Too much money involved for teams to be "screwed" out of the top 4

I say they take the conference champions at the end of the year run a BCS computer formula on those teams and the top four from that subset are in the 4 team playoff.
It would be super clear in how to get there and no real bullshite. You win your conference then a strength of schedule algorithm picks the top 4 conference winners.
I wouldn't whine about my team missing a spot as the second representative from a conference because you don't deserve the national championship over the team that beat you in your own conference tournament.

Just make it an 8 team playoff.

If none won the SEC then none would likely get in. The committee is more interested in accomplishment vs some hypothetical "who's the best" argument. At least that's my hope

Not bad

I wouldn't even include non conference champions in the results to reduce bitching.

Yeah, but the whole point of the committee was to figure out "the best team regardless of conference".
Conference champions should not matter except it improves SOS with a win. You should be picking the best team. I know I hate the mulligan bowl of 2011, but LSU and Bama where literally the two best college football teams that year by a wide margin. In 2016, that could happen again.

Then why did Norte Dame get in a few years ago? Why would a 1 loss big 10 champ get in over a 3 loss sec team that would be favored if the 2 were to play the next week?
By "best" we should be focusing on best season, not who might beat who in a hypothetical game.

Yeah I call bs. OSU had a great season and was left out to basically replay a game that wasn't needed. It was totally manipulated by poll voters with an agenda.

The BCS is a much much better system, but sadly i dont see it returning.
BCS deciding the top 4 seems to be the best system we could have but oh well
This. I would be fine w old BCS system picking top 4 teams. I just wanted some sort of playoff.

I just can't stand the human polling. It would have to be just the computers. The human polling has proved the again and again the bs agendas of the coaches and media.

Never. The ptb want the playoffs to be "representative" of the breadth and depth of CFB. That is the unwritten and unspoken overarching rule that "guides" the rankings...

Your missing the big influence, that being TV ratings. The networks want a an SEC team, a Pac team, a Big12 and Notre Dame.
The system will be changed to accommodate this outcome.
The networks do not want 2 or 3 teams from the SEC and/or Fla St. in the playoffs.

When the committee decides to move it to 8 teams, everyone will be please by their conference champions in the game from the Big 5. Then you have 3 At-Large teams competing for the last spots. This way, you are likely to get 2 SEC schools, aside from the Big 5 Champions. This will be the winning solution to the NCAA Division I Playoff issues. All the non-SEC Conference Champions will feel relevant for a playoff spot.

Why did they? It's obvious to many that they weren't good. I never said they get this shite right all the time. I said look at 2011. Same division, 1 loss and was to the other team, and still got into the game over all these other conference champions. They picked the best two teams, not who had their best magical season. Even if Ok State won that last game, they still weren't better than Bama and everybody knew it.
My personal opinion, is to go 8 teams and no limits on conferences. The best teams period. That would eliminate a lot of the hate, because can you really see the best team not getting a chance when there are 8 unrestricted slots?

Huge +1

OSU was a product of playing a garbage schedule like they do every year, and get their asses beat in a big bowl game like they do almost every year.
That was the wrong team and you know it.

BCS is not coming back. The purpose of the committee is to promote non SEC schools. Mission accomplished.
