I think Tressel would have been a home run hire for a desperate program. Kinda late now with the Youngstown gig. Doubt he'll coach anymore.

Whoa...Just heard this on Gameday. Dennis Erickson is the running back coach at Utah. The guy has two national championships, has coached in the NFL, and is now a position coach. Unreal.

Some people are just addicted to coaching. I would assume he doesn't need the money.

Looking back, USM made a poor move letting him go. Solid coach who probably could've had a better career. Isn't the story with him that his daughter is buried in Hattiesburg and he has said he never plans to leave her or something?

Gary Barnett, Wannstache, Mangino

Chizzie not having a coaching job is pure garbage.

He's too old now but it still interests me how he walked away in his prime.
Left to devote himself to his ministry full time, if I recall correctly.

Dude has some baggage with him. It is like inviting the NCAA to open an investigation in you.

I read something about McCartney a year or so ago and how he always had a guilt complex about how the demands of coaching essentially caused him to miss out entirely on his kids' childhoods and that he often warned young assistants about the toll coaching takes on your personal life.

Rocky Long is gonna be the next big coach once he's given a shot at a real program.

I think Gary Patterson would make a solid NFL HC.

I realize he is currently coaching, but I can't believe how big he has gotten

He did beat the very average Gamecock teams a lot which kept those contract extensions coming.
Indeed. CFB, perhaps more than any other sport, really emphasizes the importance of beating rivals. Beating us almost every year kept Bowden around, then he started getting some wins over FSU.
With that said, Clemson also made an emotion hire when Dabo beat us in his first try. Clemson has had a bunch of success since then, but that 1-5 record vs us has really put a dent in his accomplishments.

Butch Davis was on Tampa Bays staff last year.

Dabo kept his job safe after this quote
