College football coaches you wonder why they don't have a coaching gig right now

Right now for me it would be Tommy Bowden. I mean the guy was not elite but he was not bad either. He took Tulane to an undefeated season and was decent at Clemson. There are far worse coaches in the FBS right now. He has been out of coaching since 2008.

He'll probably get a job elsewhere, but right now I imagine he is getting a good pay check to sit in a studio once a week for some Saturdays during half the year.

Also, when Clemson fired him they had a big payout so I know he could sit nice and cozy, unemployed for a bit.

Point is, he can afford to wait for a good opportunity.

I'm waiting for someone to bite the bullet and go for Jim Tressel. His show cause is up in 2016 right?

the landscape of college football has changed big time since then. If he gets an offer, it'll be a job he doesn't want. He seems to be a studio lifer at this point

Since he just became the President of Youngstown State University and will be 64 when his show cause expires, he says he has officially retired from coaching.

Tressel is a university president? Anyone else find this odd? Am I missing something but why would a university make a football coach president

It seems like forever ago that Bowden was Clemson's coach. Thinking back, 'decent' was pretty bad. Going 7-5 or 8-4 in the ACC is bad. The term 'Clemsoning' was coined during his tenure. We had two good wins the whole time he was here and in those same seasons we lost to Wake Forest and Duke. He did beat the very average Gamecock teams a lot which kept those contract extensions coming.

Overall, Clemson was in bad shape when Bowden got there. He brought up the talent level a little, but couldn't get over the hump. Dabo has done a hell of a recruiting job though.

I always wondered why Butch Davis isn't coaching. He's been cleared of all the illegal stuff, and he made North Carolina relevant and built one of the greatest teams of all time at Miami.

Bill McCartney

Walter Camp Coach of Year
Eddie Robinson Coach of Year
Paul "Bear" Bryant Award

3 Time Big Eight Coach of Year

Orange Bowl Hall of Fame

National Titles in 89 and 91

58-11-4 in his last 6 years

Left coaching in 1994. He's too old now but it still interests me how he walked away in his prime.

1) It's YSU
2) The only memorable thing they've ever done nationally is win titles when he was there
3) University Pres is a position about raising money, which he will do
