Taco Tico Kennerbrah review

I had a quick out of the office meeting in Kennerbrah today. On my way to my meeting, I saw a Taco Tico in my peripheral vision. I thought they had closed all of their doors, since Tiger Wise was crying the other day.
I had not been to a Taco Tico since approximately 1998, when one was located on Elysian Fields by the Pit Movie Theater. My only memory was that their sauce was odd.
The interior of this location was amazing. It was like stepping back in time to the 80's. The mural was made with fresca colors, and they had vintage halloween decorations hanging up.
I ordered a chicken taco salad and supreme bean tostada. The salad was decent, but I couldn't place the flavors in the chicken. It appeared that the chicken they use is similar to that of Taco Bell. I assume it is sliced and frozen. The chicken was dry and had hint of lime.
The tostada was awful. I think it may have been made at 10:30 by mistake and sat on a counter until someone ordered it. The beans look like they had been sitting out for some time in the sun. I apologize for the potato camera.
I enjoyed my time there. I saw several gentleman wearing cargo khaki pants. I have not seen these in a while. I also saw a 45-40 year old man with a brow piercing.
I will not head there from NoLa, but if in the area I may drop in for the nostalgia.

Looks like you took one for the team.

As you can probably tell from your photo, Johnny Sanchez clearly ripped off TT's mural.
Almost identical.
Almost identical.

Should I? What is it?

It's a taco burrito hybrid over there at TT.
I've never had anything chicken over there that I can recall. I usually stick to the taco, Sancho, and enchilada. It's a nostalgia thing for sure but the ground beef taste delicious.

Sancho is definitely the go to item. I consider it a giant soft taco rolled up. The combo burrito is next best. Enchiladas are solid, too, with a tasty sauce, but I don't like the lettuce garnish. Just doesn't belong around a beef enchilada.
I liked the process better in the old days when you order what kind of sauce you wanted and they put it on for you. Now they just give you a container to apply yourself.
All the meat items, except for ground beef, were added in later years and I never really warmed up to them. It's best to stay away from them IMHO. To be honest, TT is a shell of what it used to be. It's pretty inconsistent, as for both quality and serving size.
The turning point for TT was, I think, when all FF places had to disclose nutrition information. They changed their fried tortilla shells and started draining off all the flavorful goodness. Some people derisively call that "grease".
I also read they changed the meat recipe at some point, and it was so unpopular the public demanded they revert back. I will always support TT because of nostalgia and loyalty. I think the owner is very near retirement age so I don't think the end will be long coming.

For the Tico, the simple items get me.
Just those bean & cheese burritos (extras sizzauce) and those Sunday 59-cent tacos.
Beautiful.

They stil have those?
I haven't had Taco Tico in about 12 years. I used to love their $.59 cent tacos as a broke college student. If I lived there I would probably eat them more.

I use to crush them when they were 39 cents. Worked retail back then and we would phone in an order of 100.

Some bitch at Ted's Frostop threw a fit when LSU played Tulane on that early Saturday morning a few years ago. I ordered about 60 castle burgers. I said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but you offer packs of 20. Give me 3."
Her manager took my side.
