I'm all for tradition too, but our helmets look stale and need a refresh. LSU actually used a different tiger head logo on our helmet this year. It was a little cleaner than the old one, but is still a mess. I love the tiger eye - it's distinctive and noticeable. Hell, it's our midfield logo, and it's looks fantastic. Wish we would use it on the helmets too.
I vehemently disagree with this post. I love the current helmets. I think the tiger head modification was more than enough to clean it up a bit.
And for the love of God, no tiger eye on the helmet. Leave the goddamn helmets (and Britney) alone.

Loved these helmets.

That helmet reminds me of a Mother's Day corsage

You do realize that between 1955-1976, our helmet was changed 6 times. Old gold to yellow, add numbers, change number font twice, add tiger head logo, current design.
Oh, and we changed the tiger head this year, which shows that we're aware the old tiger head was unrecognizable. But the new one is barely better.
I'm not talking about doing an Oregon-type thing. Just change it up a bit, and keep some traditional aspects.
Tradition is good, but old and stale isn't.

This is completely irrelevant to me and my opinion as I personally like the helmet as is and certainly don't want the tiger eye replacing the head.

Such action doesn't show the old logo as "unrecognizable" at all. You've concluded that out if thin air and personal bias. And that they just introduced the new logo should be indicative that they plan on using it for some time. They were also using it to replace the abomination of a logo they had before and wanted uniformity in logos, from the football helmet to the basketball jerseys to the tv logo.

I never once mentioned tradition in my reasoning. I don't see the roaring tiger head as old and stale at all. They went modern and gave us one of the shittiest and most embarrassing logos in major college sports for over a decade.
The tiger head is fine and I would venture to guess most fans agree and prefer it.

Not broke, don't fix.
Especially the design. The color options I can occasionally tolerate since the kids dig it.

Helmet Idea
There are a few things I'd change about the program given the chance. The helmets aren't one of them......

I like that gold one. The striped facemask makes me want to have an epileptic seizure though. Wonder what it would be like to look through that thing all day long?

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting eyes on the side of a player's head? It would look reptilian to me. So, a big NO.
Posted on 10/21/14 at 3:01 pm to rambeau504
I know what you mean. having the eyes look at the opposing player. and making each eye basically take up each half of the helmet

If you are going to do this, you gotta go all out Maryland style and just have a huge arse eye of the Tiger covering the whole side of the helmet. Don't pussy foot this thing.

That's what I was thinking
Using the template, I came up with something I had in mind. I think I'm on the right track.. just poor execution imo

I couldn't get exactly what I wanted because I could only do one side... buuuuut. It is what it is. Kind of hideous imo, but I'm sure someone can see where I was going with this and execute better than I did.

If they do a special helmet, they need to do tiger stripes on the helmet like the Cinncinati Bengals but with purple and gold.

Um, no. It's just a bad idea.
