Bad Calls in Pictures

1. The Colston Offensive PI.
He didn't even hit anyone. This was on 3rd down and resulted in a big gain to PT down the sideline
Colston on the outside
#57 moves to cover, trips over his own man
Colston is tripped to the ground by #57, without initiating contact with anyone
It is 1 thing to miss a call, it is another to just make one up
2. Cadet
Blindside Block - Clearly not blindside and got in front of him
Also, no way that the deep ball they had before halftime was PI. Their feet were tangled and that is incidental. The ref right there didn't throw the flag and a late one came in.
He falls down b/c his cleat hits #20's thigh

Theyre not gonna catch everything but some not all of these definitely should have went differently especially the block and hold on Cadet. Very blatent and obvious things they messed up on.

I agree, which is why I have a much bigger problem with the refs making up penalties like the Colston PI. That takes a preplay bias
I'm interested to see when he threw the flag from the coach's view

I'm assuming your analysis of all the calls that went against Detroit is coming soon.
ThxIA.

Completely agree with Colston PI and Cadet getting raped at the line.
I've played DB my whole life and don't think that Dixon interfered with Tate, but my thinking is that the ref called the grab on Tate's arm when Dixon turned his head for the ball. It was great coverage, and Tate falling probably forced the ref's hand. It was just unlucky for Dixon, in truth.

Another horrible call was the one on Lelito.....

At this point was when I knew the refs were idiots. Dixon had great coverage and was actually looking back for the ball. At that point almost everything Stafford threw over 15 yards was getting flagged on us.
The call on Lelito was laughable. Apparently the right side of your chest if your "blindside"

Feel free to list their questionable ones and I'll do it after work
These stood out as egregious to me outside of the PI on the deep ball
Offensive PI usually has to be blblatantly obvious

Waiting for your 'in-depth analysis' on---
Glover Quin's personal foul (for tackling someone really hard)
Mark Ingram taunting before getting thrown by Tahir Whitehead
Ndamukong Suh getting held on literally half of Drew Brees's dropbacks.
These are just off of the top of my head.
TIA.
Good luck vs. GB next week.

Was it the referee's fault that Brees was 3/14 in the 4th quarter? Had a span of 11 attempts where he had 10 incompletions and an int. Or was it their fault that the defense have up a 75 yard TD on 3rd and long?

My problem with the blindside call was that the offensive player didn't launch, there wasnt contact to the defender's head, and the offensive player didn't lead with the head.
How else do you block someone safely?
It shouldn't be the offensive players fault that the defender is unaware of his surroudings.

That was a good one.
How about when the Saints defender (Lofton?) stood over Joique Bell and slammed his head to the ground in front of everyone.

This. Forgot about this one.

I think the Lelito bullshite blindside block call was one of the worst calls of the game as well as the pass interference on Rafael Bush. I hate blaming refereeing and being that guy, but the officiating yesterday was atrocious. That's not why the Saints lost the game at all, that's a different discussion. But the game was called horribly.

There were some crappy calls that went both ways. It just seemed like the Saint's penalties occurred at awful times, either in the red zone, on 3rd down to keep a Detroit drive alive, or to wipe out a big Saints play.
That said, the most infuriating thing from yesterday's game was Payton's decision mid-way through the 4th to get conservative and settle for a FG to keep it a 2 score game instead of going for a TD to make it a 3 score game. No need for hindsight, that was a bad decision the moment it happened. Even with the 70+ yard Tate TD, I don't think DET comes back from 27-10 to win the game.

Don't worry, we'll wait.

There were bad calls both ways. It was a horribly officiated game for both teams.

It really was. And the timing of them were really bad.
