You also witnessed what a talented director can do with mediocre actors
are you calling shooter McGavin a mediocre actor?
also, this movie was kinda like Jared Leto's coming out party. and Jennifer connoly is more than mediocre, imo.

Awesome movie, it got its point across.

Watched this for this first time with a few friends in college. At the end of the movie, we sat in silence all the way through the credits and the dvd menu popped up again before anyone said anything.

WTF did I just witness???? How does this get such high ratings?????
This was one of the most disturbing, depressing movies I have ever seen......
...and it SUCKED.
Well if you view movies solely as arbiters of good times and good feelings, then this might be the worst movie ever made.
But, if you view movies as an expression or exploration of humanity, or what it means "to be," or as something searching for the truth in life, then this is top tier.

The same exact thing happened to me....sort of. I saw it in theaters previously, but told some friends they had to watch it. They just sat there all the way through...so I didn't say anything.
Talk about being labeled the buzzkill that night.

I doubt it.
Just a crazy movie that you don't really want to talk about right after it happens. Hits you deep.

Jared Leto circa Requiem was not the Jared Leto we see today. Also, Marlon Wayans is at best mediocre as a dramatic actor and he was brilliant in this. Jennifer Connelly is a good actress, but hadn't been in much before Requiem. And let's face it, until Leto won his Oscar, people didn't think of him as a great actor. He was fantastic in Requiem.
But Aronofsky is an actor's director it seems to me. Got Portman and Rourke a bunch of acclaim after being considered pretty average to above average.

I fricking hate it.

One of my best friends from high school got hooked on meth really bad. One day I took this movie over to his house and we watched it (I was kind of hoping it would be an eye opener for him). He had probably been up for several days before we watched it, and I think the movie really messed with his head. He ended up killing himself a couple of months later. I don't know if the movie had anything to do with his suicide, but I've often wondered if it did.

Yeah I watched it the other day to see what the hoopla was about, and I was like WTF on the back end of the film.

Whenever I'm feeling down I watch this movie to remind myself that things could be worse.

OK, that's it. I AM finally going to watch this movie tonight. I'll post my thoughts afterwards.

Requiem for a Dream makes Trainspotting look like a commercial for drugs. I've watched Trainspotting multiple times, I have zero interest in seeing Requiem again. It was just too disturbing. You see the horrid shite people do to themselves to get drugs.
