In other words "I'm going to be long retired by the time this new deal gives players a shitload more money"

But he does have a point.

If they sign a contract taking less money than the market value, that's on the player making a choice.

I don't get what he's upset about?

Exactly. And he benefited from the PREVIOUS CBA that didn't have max deals and had 7 year contracts etc. $279,738,062.

Players will be coming for blood during this next round of negotiations. They were taken to the woodshed last time.

This. It's not hard to break labor if you have a war chest built up like the NBA owners do.

In reality, that's true. They are first time millionaires and the owners are billionaires. Theyre rich, and the owners are wealthy

But but ideally, they have ALL the power. Those 30 owners couldnt find another 400 men on this earth that could make them the profits they get in that confined realm.

This why I don't understand why the players association doesn't mandate that a portion of the players yearly salary goes to a trust fund or a work stoppage funds. Something like 30-35%. Yes the players will live less "luxurious" but they will also be able to withstand long lockouts and work stoppages if those arise. You would probably also see less players going broke after retirement.

But the players would never do that, they love instant gratification and the owners know it trap them bh it

There is absolutely no reason why those players don't get a 60% cut.

They are an unique work force that CANNOT be replace. They should treat themselves accordingly, in their collective bargaining

That is true except you forgot one thing. The owners for the most part have secondary and tertiary sources of income. Once the car payments on the 3 Bentleys hit or Dwight's child support payments for his 6 kids are due the players are fricked.

"Sure we make a lot but we spend a lot too" - Patrick Ewing during 1998-99 Lockout

That's very true. That's why I've always been for a 3 year and done rule. More educated players has to lead to less broke players...right? I couldn't imagine being 20 with $10M in the bank, and being from some of the backgrounds some of those guys are from. I'd be broke too!

Does anyone know if the league has any wealth establishment programs? Less broke players is better for the league, but i doubt they want to give the players other interest outside of basketball

3 bentleys is nothing to a player like dwight or others making that much $. I think you meant to say the other 80% of the league that are making a few mil a year instead of 15-20

I have a feeling that both sides have incentive to get this out of the way quickly. I'm expecting a 3-5% jump and call it a day. The NBA is figuratively on fire right now, while the NFL is literally on fire right now. They'd be dumb to waste all the built up good will on a millionaire vs billionaire fight.

They've actually done something similar to that this time around.

Why is he complaining. There is going to be a big jump in the salary cap as a result of the new TV deal.

Well that's encouraging. I'm not sure if a lot of these guys realize that they have a real opportunity to establish wealth and legacys simply because their athletic ability.
