Can we just talk about Colston's "incomplete pass" in the 4th quarter?

My dad and I watched the slow replay of the "drop" and both looked at each other like "Holy crap, did they really not review that?"
I only saw the one replay in real time during the game broadcast, but after I saw it I came away from that thinking the Saints got very, very lucky.

yep, i thought it should have been a fumble as well. Colston's bitch arse.

He almost had himself another game changer to lose us the game. That's for sure.
Colston appears to lack any interest in playing football. His slow paced jogging to his route followed by either a drop or catch + fumble... it's old

I'm also on the Drew Brees can't throw a deep ball bandwagon.
Meachem had his man beat a few times on deep balls and Brees underthrew him in a Dome with no weather affects except for the A/C.
I'm not panicking about it, but don't keep doing that if he can't make the throw. My dad was also wondering about Brandin Cooks and why he isn't the deep threat. It hit me..."Dad, Drew can't throw the ball far enough to let Cooks' speed run under it."

glad we have toon waiting in the wings...

I don't understand what's going on with him. He's literally never had drop issues and now, all of a sudden, he's getting them at the tail end of his career. Disappointing to say the least.

I think Colston might be suffering from some nerve damage in his arms/hands. It's no secret to those of us who have watched him play at such a high level for so long that Colston has taken some hard hits and never had issues. One of my all-time favorite Saints players on offense, but I'm beginning to think it's not really a mental thing.

Colston has been terrible this year. If I'm SP, I seriously consider activating Toon for a game and just put him in a series or two instead of Colston, just to see. If it doesn't work out, then you have to ride Colston the rest of the year and get a replacement in the offseason.
But regardless, this is the last season for MC in a Saints uniform.

Colsten has always had drop and fumble issues at the wrong time. Packers, bears, and Seahawks games come to mind

It was a fumble and it would have been returned a long ways

Having that called an incompletion was the first bit of luck to go the Saints way this year.

It's Drew's fault. He is not putting the ball in there with any zip. It's common after having 4 kids. Colston will be better after we use our first pick in the 2015 draft on a QB.

This. And I am shocked by both Lovie Smith and Sean Payton. If Lovie had any cognition of what just happened he would have called a timeout (he had them). And if CSP had any cognition of what just happened he would have told his offense to just get back out there and run the next play, quickly, before Smith figured it out and before the Refs figured out they screwed up.
Saints were extremely lucky there.

Yep, I held my breath until the end of the following play because I was sure they would call it dead to review it.

There may be lingering issues with Brees' oblique injury but sometimes he goes put some real heat on the ball. It appears its more his decision making, when, where and how to throw the ball.

In regular time it looked to be an incomplete pass....but in slow motion look like a fumble.
Do they review in slow mo?

I would think they have to review in slow motion to actually get the calls right.

Brees is a pocket passer, which is remarkable considering how he played at Purdue and his height. He is getting flushed from the pocket consistently. When he has had decent blocking up front he has thrown some great passes. But he is buying time with his feet, and when your play goes bust your mind is keep the play alive.
First pick was the worst because of the points directly from it, but it was the most understandable. He was tripped up on the run and the ball came out funny. Should have taken the sack, but if Brees took a sack on every play like that this year we would be 0-5. Period.
Second pick was the one that really didn't make any sense. There was no receiver remotely in the area and he floated the ball. It was a bad decision, should have taken the sack.

could it be lingering affects of the oblique?
I know he hasn't had the greatest armstrength the last couple years but I just can't see it dropping off that much that quickly
