Its Sammy's

I have the PTT vinyl back in Louisiana that I need to get when I fly back at some point. I love that album too.

I've had a pair of 926's for a couple of years. Great speakers. Enjoy.

Not Marco, but Focal is very good stuff and has a great rep in the audio industry. They have a very broad lineup that extends to some very, very pricey models.

Love the Coltrane selection, that's obviously a total classic. Enjoy!

Pheroy,

river_man was being facetious with that question to me. He knows I am a longtime Focal fan. I have a pair of Focal Utopia BE which he has seen numerous times at my place (pre Ida). They actually made it through the destroyed house OK, as they were being temporarily stored in a back bedroom closet when Ida hit.

Sweet. I spent a lot of time with those guys at that time, especially Sammy.
Both records are killer!

Oh nice. So shockthemonkey has the 926s, I have the 936s and you have the 948s! I have been in a dry spell lately spinning albums. I need to start back up again.

How does that stereo Blue Train tone Poet sound? I almost pulled the trigger, but talked myself out of it since I already have a different reissue of it.

Focal makes very nice speakers and has for a long time. They also make really really good car audio speakers.

I initially talked myself out of it also bc of the price and the second record of outtakes, which I’ll never play. But being that I did not have this highly regarded classic, I went for it. It does sound pretty amazing to me, I think they knocked it out of the park! The packaging is top notch too, there’s a cool booklet inside the gatefold of the stereo version.
These speakers are next level too, I’m in the big leagues now with you guys.

That was just a joke between Marco & I. I would never buy gear without thoroughly researching…

A pic from around 2003 (the 2005 digital date stamp is wrong, as I never reset the date on the digital camera after battery changes back in the day).

…early Focal Electra 926 driven by an Audio Research VS110 55wpc stereo amp, and the center channel not in the picture was driven by the white faced Adcom GFA-535 II seen in the rack. That Adcom was great little amp…drove 4ohm loads easily and measured past its specs (60wpc), had higher end connectors and spade lugs, had some weight to it as well. It was $399 new back in 1992, with the white face adding another $50–worth it IMO—has a great look to it.
I gave it to a friend’s son about 12 years ago when he went off to college.

…and one from mid-2006…Focal Alto Utopia Beryllium driven by an older Mac MC2105.

That’s some good looking stuff!

Marco…. I tried to find it and couldn’t. What was the brand of that pair you replaced the focals with? Audio something or another?

Man I’ve been out of the loop…. My wife is making me a buy a new dog that’s costing the price of an upgrade to a new set of speakers.

I have enjoyed adding the Bluesound node (latest edition) to the mix a while back. Decided to start with that first, then upgrade later. I wasn’t sure how much I’d use it. Which turns out to be every day. The recent addition of att fiber doesn’t hurt either.

However, I’m thinking of switching back to Tidal from Quboz as my higher quality streaming service. I don’t know if I like Quboz that much. Music is great, but Tidal seemed to have more going on. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

Adcom GFA-535 II

My first fairly hi end rig, bought in 1990 at Art Colley's in Baton Rouge, was a pair of Mirage M3s with an Adcom GFP-555 / GFA-555 combo driving them. Adcom was THE mid range amp brand then. Really solid gear, built like a tank and performed well. I recall when they rolled out the white faceplates. Wasn't a big fan but it was a distinctive look for sure.

Those Mirages were awesome, too. Was sad when they stopped making real speakers then not surprisingly disappeared. I still use Mirage OMD-28s and an OMD-C2 as LCR in my main HT.

I still have a mint pair of Mirage M-790 that are at my parent’s house in Metry. I ran them with the Adcom GFA-535 while I was a student at Bama. Preamp was a Denon PRA-1500, which was also a killer piece for $500 back in 1990.

I like Qobuz. Seems like it fits my style of music better.
