Just curious. I bought a Pioneer SA-9800 Amp back when I was in the service. Loved it and some how a roommate managed to blow it. Been trying to find somewhere to take it to be fixed. Would love to get it working again.

Picked up some vinyl recently. Some new, some old.... Got the amp heating up now..

Rick Wakeman-Journey to the Center of the Earth. Sweet Thunder half speed master. Edition 1 of only 11 albums remastered. Original release 1974-remastered 1981.

True Believers-same. Alejandro Escovedo, etc...1986

Ella at Duke's Place. 1965. Verve 4070 cut corner gatefold. Very clean album. All the big boys are on here-Procope, Gonzalves, Hodges, Bellson,....

Klaatu-Klaatu.

front cover

back.

"They named themselves after the extraterrestrial character Klaatu in the film The Day the Earth Stood Still."

Original title is "3:47 EST"-Canadian version where they hailed from. Their first album, 3:47 EST (named Klaatu in the US as Capitol Records' executives found the original title too obscure). (BTW, if anyone has a copy please let me know).

Yep like maybe 2% of America knew WTF a "Klaatu" was....

The back cover is a cool as the front.

The New Pornograpers-Whiteout Conditions.
As usual the AC Newman tunes with Neko Case rock. Saw them in concert a few weeks ago. Very professional-pretty much just get up and play without any messing around.

Beatles-Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
New remaster. Elegant....

Mike Oldfield-Return to Ommadawn. 2017
Haven't broken it open yet.

Look Park. Fountains of Wayne's Chris Collingwood. 2016.
Haven't broken it open yet.

Calexico-Edge of the Sun. 2015
A bit late on this one but as usual total excellence from this band.

Real Estate: In Mind- 2017
Haven't cracked it open yet...

Offa Rex-The Queen of Hearts.
Decemberists + Olivia Chaney
Just arrived today.

I'm moving into a small apartment in the cbd and am trying to decide what I should do with my audio set up. The living room is an open layout, but the area I'll be putting my tv and couch and stereo is 14x15 yes it's small.
I have to say I'm 50/50 between music and movies so that's where I'm having trouble deciding what to go with. I have a pair of Paradigm Trinity bookshelf speakers that need to be repaired. Should I just repair them and get a center speaker and call it a day or would a sound bar be better for the small size of the room?

Also, don't want anything with a big subwoofer that will piss off my neighbors. But im not sure if the trinity w/ center speaker set up will be enough in the low range.

(Forgive my lack of audio vocab, I'm not familiar with all the terms, any responses are appreciated, just try to dumb down the answers if you go into detail.)

I have a second turntable, a cosmetically rough Technics SL1210, which I've had at a Baton Rouge shop to repair an issue I figured was tonearm wiring or binding of some kind. They've had it for 4 or 5 months and no action.

I'm a slow learner...I had an SP10 there years ago to replace the start switch. His wife dropped it!

Anybody in area knowledgeable enough to do repairs?

I'm looking to get my very first turntable soon. I don't want anything fancy or expensive. My brother has gotten into vinyl in the last year and has built up an impressive collection already. He has recommended the Audio Technica AT-LP60BK ($99 - Amazon) as a good starter. I have a basic 15 year old Sony stereo receiver that has served me well.

What are your thoughts on the turntable? What else would you recommend to get started?

Need some turntable recs please. While I consider myself a serious audiophile, it's been solely on digital front. I would like to dip my toe in the pure analog water to see how I like it. Some may scoff at my budget given my other equipment, but I want to make sure I am "in to" it before dropping a ton of cash. So, I would love to get some recs for entry level turntable that is a good enough player to give me an idea of what good analog sounds like.

Budget: Trying to stay under 800
Preamp: McIntosh C2500
Amp: McIntosh MC452
Speakers: B&W 802D and Focal Aria 936 (depends on mood)

Thought I would venture over here since I don't see much talk about Brent Cobb's Providence Canyon....and I recently picked up an upgrade to my AT-LP60:

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC, Edifier R1280T, Pro-Ject Phono Box MM

My setup was:
Teac TN-400s turntable
Peachtree Decco65 amp
Tekton M-Lore speakers

Sounded great for my space. But due to visual aesthetics and space (wife), I had to go a different route. We already have a Sonos Beam and two Play 3's in the living room. I had a Sonos connect I wasn't using and decided to run the turntable to the connect's inputs. It's not quite as good but pretty impressive. Also allows the vinyl to play through the whole house.

Currently listening to Traffic: John Barleycorn Must Die. A Christmas gift from my brother.

What are you baws opinions on a Marantz 2220B receiver? I have an opportunity to grab one that has been fully serviced with new LED's for $100. Is it powerful enough to provide good sound for a smaller living room? Would probably just hook up a couple of good quality bookshelf speakers. I am not an expert so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone help with this annoying issue I have with my system?

Problem: when listening to records, occasionally the volume (and maybe even quality?) shoots up for about 5 seconds and then goes back down.

What could this be? Misaligned cartridge? Some faulty wiring with the turntable? Something goofy happening in the receiver?

I can’t determine if the issue is with my receiver or turntable. It’s driving me crazy.

I discovered that the needle on my ClearAudio Concept turntable is bent to the side and I will likely need to replace the cartridge with a new one. Can anybody recommend a place in Lafayette LA that could set up the new cartridge once i get it? Thanks.
