MLB MVP : State your case for your guy!

American League:
Robison Cano, (Seattle Mariners) Nah
Jose Abreu, (Chicago White Sox)
Meh...
I like Miguel Cabrera, (Detroit Tigers)
BUT
My new favorite,
Jose Altuve, (Houston Astros)
But my AL MVP vote goes to....
Mike Trout
——————————
National League:
There's only 2:
Andrew McCutchen, (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Maybe.....
But my vote for not only the NL MVP, but the whole dang league MVP ( if there was such a thing) has got to be ...
Clayton Kershaw,
(Los Angeles Dodgers)
If you don't know his lights out numbers, then google them.
Who you got?
Robison Cano, (Seattle Mariners) Nah
Jose Abreu, (Chicago White Sox)
Meh...
quote:
35 home runs and 102 RBI, and he leads the AL with a .986 OPS and 174 OPS+
Unfortunately, he plays for a sub-.500 team, and only five times in MLB history has a player on a losing team claimed MVP honors.
I like Miguel Cabrera, (Detroit Tigers)
BUT
quote:
Cabrera has provided elite production once again this season with a .313/.375/.520 line to go along with 23 home runs and 102 RBI,
But if a Tigers player is going to win MVP here in 2014 it's going to be Victor Martinez. He could still finish in the top 10, especially if the Tigers end up winning the AL Central, but it's fair to assume we won't be seeing an AL MVP three-peat.
My new favorite,
Jose Altuve, (Houston Astros)
quote:
Altuve currently leads the AL in batting average (.342), hits (209) and stolen bases (52), and if he keeps that up he will be the first player since Ichiro in 2001 to pace his respective league in all three categories.
Alas, he too plays for the sub-.500 team in the Astros, so a top-five finish is probably the best he can hope for.
But my AL MVP vote goes to....
Mike Trout
quote:
The offensive numbers go on and on, but the simplest way to state his case as the AL MVP front-runner is that he is undoubtedly the best player on the best team in baseball.
——————————
National League:
There's only 2:
Andrew McCutchen, (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Maybe.....
quote:
He has posted very similar numbers across the board this season, actually improving his OPS (.911 to .932) and OPS+ (157 to 161), and there is little question he is one of the most productive players in the league.
But my vote for not only the NL MVP, but the whole dang league MVP ( if there was such a thing) has got to be ...
Clayton Kershaw,

Jose Altuve
Most hits by a second baseman since 1936
quote:
He is also the first MLB player with 220 hits, 55 extra base hits, and 55 stolen bases in a season since Ty Cobb. in 1917.

I'll take kemp. Dodgers are my NL team now.

Trout and Kershaw. Liked Stanton but that injury puts him out of it unfortunately.

Trout probably wins AL. The funny thing is his last 2 seasons were probably overall better than 2014.

Stanton deserves to be in the op for sure. I think his final numbers were about 37 homers and .965 ops. Carried a team way above what it produced last year and they lost Jose Fernandez. Of course, the Marlins were a popular choice to improve because their staff is legit with or without Jose.

To me Trout and Kershaw pretty clearly stood-out as the winners, so I thought it would be more interesting to do a top 5.
NL:
1. Kershaw
2. McCutchen
3. Stanton
4. Lucroy
5. Posey
AL:
1. Trout
2. Kluber
3. Felix
4. Brantley
5. Bautista
NL:
1. Kershaw
2. McCutchen
3. Stanton
4. Lucroy
5. Posey
AL:
1. Trout
2. Kluber
3. Felix
4. Brantley
5. Bautista

If Altuve or Abreu's teams would have performed better I would be torn between one of those two. I just don't think it should go to a player on a losing team, so I'll go with:
Trout and Kershaw
Trout and Kershaw

Trout is an easy pick in the AL.
McCutch wasn't the best hitter in the NL this year. Giancarlo Stanton had a much better year. OPS was a tie. McCutch had a few more steals but not much. Stanton had 12 more homers and 22 more rbis. Stanton carried a below average team on his back all year with no lineup support. Marlins were making a wild card push before he got hurt. So my NL pick would easily be Stanton. Dude is a monster.

I think you are pretty much splitting hairs between them, but no way one was much better than the other.
McCutchen actually had a higher wOBA and wRC+.

Trout and Kershaw run away with this.

As painful as it is to agree with LE,
And it's not even close.
Although, if Altuve played on a contender he would make the AL vote close.
