I mean the good ones. I've gone to the doctor three times in the last month due to shoulder pain and tingling in my fingers. The first time I was given prescription Ibuproferin (800 mg) and muscle relaxers. That didn't work at all. I was refered to a men's health doctor and he recommended the same as the first. He then recommends me to an orthopedist and he diagnoses me with a pinched nerve in my neck. Well I havent been able to sleep for over a month and I've been in a lot of pain. The orthopedist gives me a steroid shot in the neck and offers me some muscle relaxers which arent helping and physical therapy. I'm still in a lot of pain? Why am I not getting the good stuff?

Probably because you actually need to go to therapy and not just medicate your pain.

Because they are being watched like hawks about frivioulous perscriptions. Not saying you are at all, but lots and lots of people are going to them with 'symptoms' such as yours but they just want the pain meds. They probably suspect you're one of them.

I've heard that under the new Obamacare regs you have to go to a specialized "pain doctor" to get a prescription for pain meds. My MIL is having to find one of these doctors for my step-FIL from what she's told me. .

Related

ETA: Not saying you're lying to the doctor. That's just why they don't hand them out like candy anymore. Stupid people dun fricked it up.

If your an established patient they will.Nothing above Norco. And that's with MRI's that back up why they're prescribing them.

They prefer to send you to Pain Management if you require daily pain medication.

I thought those 'pain management' clinics were for that?

Prescribing narcotics for chronic musculoskeletal pain's usually a last resort. It's otherwise frowned upon.

Not really since the DEA and FDA decided they know what you need more than your doctor does.

Because too many people with your complaint are drug seeking.

Calling it that makes you suspicious.

Pain pills never helped when I had a pinched nerve in my neck

I used to work for a surgeon and he only prescribed pain pills for people that scheduled surgery. Pain management is your best bet

My sickle cell is hurting me too. I need some. I may have a touch of the sugar and a bit of the high blood to go along with it.

I feel your pain.

I have an allergy to something in tylonol and Advil that makes it really hard to breathe. It's not the apap though bc hydrocodone works fine.

So anytime doctors read that allergy they immediatly assume I'm a pill head.

And my regular doc can still prescribe it.
