it's almost the end of september, man!
if you ain't splitting your own, it's best to stock up in late summer for best prices imo

I missed summer by one day.

Got a lot of mine down. Just hafta cut it up and haul it in. I like to cut wood when it's about 40 degrees or colder. Chain saw seems to run better then, too. Plus, all the yellow jackets, rattlesnakes, and copperheads are movin real slow...

Called my guy Friday. I've got a cord on the way this week.
The folks who are serious about selling firewood have been cutting and splitting since the end of deer season.
Edit: or turkey season

I ain't bought any firewood since before Hitler was a corporal. How much does a heaped pickup truck load of hardwood cost down there? I have no idea what it cost here either because I've cut my own for 40 years...

This. My rack is full and still have a couple cords laying around. Still have 15-20 logs stacked up that need to be cut and split. Hell, I might sell them. What's the going price of a cord?

I used to do this and still do, but I just knocking it out in the summer
Do you have a wood guy, BFIV? Or do you cut/split your own?

I don't have any to sell this year.
I have about a cord at the most, and I'll burn that myself by January.

What type of splitter do you have? I may be in the market for one after this year.

Bought mine at Tractor Supply several years ago. It's a 35 ton, 12.5 HP, 26 inch stroke Huskee. Vertical or horizontal splitter. It paid for itself, imho, the first time I used it. Sure beats using that go-devil and wedge.
Edited: I just went back and looked at Tractor Supply website. They've gone up in price to 2K now for this splitter. And the frame on the new models looks a lot less sturdy that the frame on mine. They don't even put fenders over the wheels now! Mechanically, though, mine works great and I've not yet run into anything it wouldn't split. If I can get it on the platform, it'll split it. 70,000 pounds is a lot of pressure...

Through the years, I've had good luck going in behind the loggers and cuttin firewood from their cull pile. Landowners usually will let you because they want the mess cleaned up. I've even gone in halvers with em if they'll help cut and split. The pile is easy to get to and I just pull out the cull logs with the tractor and start sawin. My neighbor and I are workin up a cull pile here at the foot of the mountain. I bet there's still at least 400 truck loads left to cut and split and it's all oak and hickory. It'll rot before we can get it all worked up.
