On a more serious note and to answer your question....No, I think you hire the best people (regardless of color) for the job, fricking period.

But who is the best person for the job? It's usually someone that looks and thinks like the person doing the hiring and the process is often very subjective. Companies that have a diversity of opinions and experiences probably are better positioned, but I don't think that it should be mandatory.

I loathe this line of thinking. Oh, you think that people should work in certain professions to gain experience or insight into how another segment of society lives? That's great, you do it. Leave people alone, and let them choose the path in life they feel is best for them.

Its not like they would make a career out of it. It could simply be volunteering.

C'mon bro. Honkey Handbook 101. You have to whisper it when you say it and seem very concerned. "StrongSafety is black" very hush-hush like.

I don't have serious heartburn with your analysis - unfortunately, all too often people take a failure to get a position as an example of your middle sentence here.

Think about it - 12 people up for an IT position, all male - 6 white, 4 black, 1 latino and 1 asian - they hire one of the white guys - so, now 4 black guys and 1 latino are walking away, shaking their heads thinking, "Racist white people..." ignoring the fact there are 5 white guys who didn't get the job, either.

One of my problems with affirmative action (particularly at this time in history) is that if they happen to hire one of the black guys in the above scenario, now 11 people think he got it because of his race (and perhaps even 12) - and that would piss me off (and I'm whiter than sour cream.)

The analogy I've been using lately is counterfeit. If something is counterfeited heavily (like Confederate sabers from the Civil War) - then it reduces the value of even the genuine article, as everyone is suspicious because of the counterfeits.

1. You're still making someone do something they don't want to do.

2. It's not volunteering, if it's mandatory.

BS. Your company must hire certain races and genders at a certain percentage to be viewed as a good company by the U.S. government.

The company does, yes, but my team is all white dudes

So is this competency only pertinent for minorities, or do you think that it will be must have skill for all people going forward?

it's not a "minority" thing. there are superior and inferior cultures. white/western culture has proven to be the best culture we've found today

so it makes total sense that those of superior culture find success without understanding of other inferior cultures

it just so happens that western culture is "white" culture

Today it seems that a good portion of non whites are better at western culture than "white" people.

yeah it's typically only seen as "white culture" by people who aren't white who are not in a great economic position

on the flip side, it's similar to how "black culture" is really urban-black culture

I don't think black people in america really have a culture.

We have adapted the ways of the dominant culture, but we have very few things we can call our own.

I agree that China's bubble will burst, but it's not just Americans buying their products. And by "Russia...regionally" do you mean Ukraine? Because that's the European part of Russia. Besides, them not being the world's police has definitely worked to their advantage.

who? china?

they desperately want to be a hegemon, and have spent trillions to get to that point, so i don't know what you're talking about

russia as in russia in its totality. if china isn't hegemon of that area, russia will be (if the US isn't, obviously)

it was a comparison of living standards

our poor people are fat and buy shite at wal-mart that starving poor people in china make for almost no money

I think the whole "China owns the USA", started as a joke, that people took as the truth. For example, it's often said that China owns the US, because of the amount of our debt they own. In reality, they only own about 8% of it. While still a good bit, it's hardly the amount you'd expect from someone who owns you.

I'm glad nobody here is fishing for some kind of egregious misstep in an attempt to gin up some RACE GRIEVANCE. You know in some places, people even throw things out hoping for dishonest argument in a cynical attempt to validate their insecurities and sense of victimhood. Thankfully that's not happening here. Whew.

yeah various US government agencies own the majority, iirc

and if china "sinks" the US, china sinks. they will lose the biggest market for much of their economy
