Doesn't have to be super nice.
Just need something to throw in the back of the truck or strap onto the 4-wheeler.

A 10/22 is a solid choice, but just to throw out something different I'll go with a Smith & Wesson 15-22.

15/22 is pretty fun. Either choice is a good one.

Both of those are great, but I love an old fashion lever action...

Hard to beat a Henry Classic Lever Action .22 Rifle.

Marlin Model 60 - cheap semi-auto, keep it clean and don't use subsonic rounds and it is fine. Mine is 25+ years old and last year I had to replace the buffer recoil, no other issues and it gets shot all the time.

My Father has the Glenfield Model 60 that will allow you to shoot 22 shorts.

I wish I could remember what I did with mine! I haven't seen it in 25 or 30 years.

I got a nice condition one... I paid $225. Ouch. But I wanted it, and I got it.
