What I Would Like To See From Jennings / Harris This Week

I've been very impressed with Jennings poise and he throws a great deep ball. I would like to see more throws of 10-20 yards including over the middle to complete the package. Harris has a great upside - great fade route to Dupre.
I like what we've seen so far. If we can start hitting intermediate passes consistently this offense is going to be very well-rounded. I'd love to see some play-action with receivers / tight ends crossing behind the LBs.

What about the old double reverse throw back pass? It works every time.

Miles' show is tomorrow night, you should call in with gold like that. Just think how many people you'll impress.

I have enjoyed our deep throws but I agree that we need to continue to develop some intermediate route chemistry. I think continuing to get the RB's involved as well as Quinn in crossing routes will help us in that department.

I think this is most people's #1 concern about the offense. The deep ball is great, but it's not going to always be there and it's a low percentage throw in most cases.

I'd just like to see LSU play and hope for a win but that's just me.

I'm sorry I thought this was an LSU discussion board. Good idea on calling the coach directly - I mistakenly thought there was intelligent life here. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with basically everything you said, fwiw.

20 completions, over 300 yards passing, 4 different receivers, zero interceptions/fumbles.

Screens to RB and 6 to 8 yd crosses to TE and this offense will be trouble.

Maybe they have been working those in practice and don't wanna show too much too early against cupcakes.

An awesome stat I agree. When we play elite SEC teams with good secondaries they are still going to stack the box on us. When they do it will be great if we can hit passes consistently between the LBs and Safeties.
This team can be elite this year if that happens

Then there would be nothing to talk about.

Sigh. Where do you people come from?
Wisconsin was no cupcake.
Perhaps there wasn't a short passing game because the long pass and the running game were working so well?
Ok let's forget about long passes for touchdowns and concentrate on short passes to the TE. That it?

Come on man, no one is saying that at all.
The point is valid, SEC play will result in a much lower percentage for those deep balls AND the running game. The other option is to have a short passing game to pick up first downs and march down the field.
It would be nice to see that the offense is capable of such...

quote:Good post man. Ignore the A-holes. I was going to start a topic about Jenning's deep throws and how I think he is one of the best in football. What I want to see is dramatic improvement in the screen game. So far, it's been pitiful.

I feel like the "we need to work on the short passing game because the longball won't always be there!" argument is this year's version of "we need to develop a 3rd receiver!". How about we let someone stop us from throwing bombs on them before we decide it's not working. I would certainly rather a 94 yard touchdown then an 8 yard completion.
And the only team we play this year with an elite secondary is Florida. As long as our defense comes to play, we should be in that game no matter what. I'd say Ole Miss has an above average secondary too, but that will be another shootout in Death Valley.
If the big play is there and you have guys capable of making it, keep doing it. I don't get why you guys always have to complain.

But as long as the deep routes are open, don't expect Jennings to settle for short/intermediate routes.
