No

That whole secondary plays, and a few start, in the NFL. Tyrann Mathieu was a generational turnover artist continuing in the pros and Morris Claiborne shut down receivers better than anyone in the country that year. Eric Reid came into an elite NFL defense and started as a rookie and played like a veteran. Brandon Taylor and Ron Brooks were role players on that defense and play in the league.

2011 was fricking special.

ETA:
Tyrann Mathieu
Morris Claiborne
Eric Reid
Tharold Simon
Ron Brooks
Brandon Taylor

I would say hold on to that statement. Considering how much of a dumpster fire the UW QB was at throwing the ball. Wait until we play a school with a real QB that can throw the ball and see how they play. We should find out in less than a month when we play MSU. If they can lock down those receivers then that statement would hold true. But a tad bit early on the statement .

He could throw the ball, just his receivers couldn't get open, directly correlating to the secondary.

No man he really couldn't throw the ball. LSU had no fear of him being able to complete a pass more than 10 yards. He had some open receivers just could not get it to them.

Fair enough but it's definitely the strength of our d. We need the dline to step up for conf play because the sec wr's will be much better than Wisconsins

True enough, we need to be able to get push with the front four.

I would agree with you to a point. Just saying a little to early to justify that statement after a first game when we played a team that has put most of their stock in the run game and not invested to much in the WR crop. The only wideout of noteworthy left to the draft for UW. The cupboards are empty looked like in the game.

Mills as the free safety > cornerback

He has free range to roam the backfield and make plays. He will do very well this year.

Pump the brakes. 2011's secondary was special.

That 2010 defensive backfield had the same cast and Peterson.

2011's unit played much better together than 2010's.

I rewatched that game 3 times. Look I love my tigers, but I'm still not impressed with these guys yet. They came back and fought like hell, but if u re-watch the game the middle of the field had some open recievers. A decent QB makes those throws. We have some very good skill players, but Wisconsin did not have any play makers outside of their two backs. I think this team will take some lumps in SEC play.

Classic saying is that a team improves the most between week 1 and 2. Tough opponent at a neutral site to open the year with a young team... Give them a game before you pass judgement

I hated Collins and Mills last year but Mills looks like an all-american and Collins significantly improved.

Neither Mills nor Collins significantly improved (I mean talent-wise. Collins may have had attitude problems). Both were very good two years ago. As I wrote on this board in 2013, Collins and Mills will both make NFL rosters, and Mills will be a multi-year starter - perhaps a pro-bowler.

It's not Mills and Collins but your perspective that's improved.

I agree. That was one of the best ever. But it certainly wasn't the best. I can think of five LSU secondaries that were that good. It was inferior to the one the year before when we had Patrick Peterson along with most of the guys from 2011 (albeit with a year less experience).

If you want to list people that made the 2011 secondary perform so well you should include Mike Brockers, Bennie Logan, Mingo, and Montgomery.

This year's secondary could very well be as good as 2011. Mills is in Eric Reid's class; Robison and White are probably both better than Claiborne (I know I'll get bashed for this, but I never saw top half of the first round in Claiborne); we just need to get the other safety playing at Taylor's level.
