No one who lives in the Valley thinks of it as "Los Angeles", even though it's officially LA city limits. The various parts of the Valley were their own little towns for quite awhile before LA annexed the entire area, and to this day they still use those names.
I know the history, but it never seemed right with me when people said they were from Sherman Oaks/Woodland Hills/Encino/Van Nuys..etc...,California. Its very confusing..
when someone from LA asks me where I'm from/where i live, i tell them sherman oaks or the valley. When someone from out of town asks me the same question, i say Los Angeles.

Los Angeles without a fricking doubt. I hate New York.

You should stick with Sherman Oaks!

I live about 16 miles from downtown LA in the South Bay area. It doesn't feel like the "big city" here nor a concrete jungle. With the ocean breeze, the highs are 75-78 and low of 65 pretty much year round. And today I rode my bike 5 miles down the strand to Fiesta Hermosa. The women and waves here are hard to beat.
