Party Politics and the Crumbling of an Empire

Republicans and Democrats have become so absorbed with their own ideologies and their own "teams" that they have forgotten the whole point of our government is to keep the nation strong. Both sides would rather achieve a victory for their party instead of looking out for the good of the country. They would rather see each other lose than to see the United States win. All great empires and civilizations were weakened from within before they were toppled by some outside force. Where do you see the US in 25 years?

Empires are what the Founders warned us against. We should never have been one in the first place.

meant in the sense of a powerful nation, we have spread the globe true but unlike a true empire we do not try to absorb all of these areas into or under our governmental rule.

The only thing that could save us is a 3rd party.
A 2 part system is about as close to a dictatorship as you can get. I find anyone associated with either party to be a weirdo. Sorry, but the people that are true republican and democrats are freaks. Both parties suck a huge cock.

Jefferson warned us about political parties. Sadly, the system he helped craft made it inevitable that a two party system would develop.

I see the balkanization of the country along ethnic lines. Consumerist capitalism is coming to an end because it is unsustainable. A new economic model will take its place. I'm not sure what that will look like exactly. Maybe more local and regional economies coming together for the greater good.

Any democracy/constitutional republic is going to have parties.
That's the nature of the beast.
The problem is that the Feds have gone from providing for the common defense, protecting our Constitutional Rights, to telling us that we have to wear seat belts, what kinds of foods our kids can eat in school, and what kind of health insurance me must have, let alone must purchase.

true - we only absorb those who will vote DEM.

I am a conservative - I would like to vote for whichever party best advances conservative principles.
Unfortunately I am reduced to voting for whichever party is least opposed to conservative principles.
I wish the DEM party would adopt a more conservative agenda. I think the power brokers in the GOP are bad, but not as bad as the power brokers in the DEM party.
Parties per se have no appeal to me.
I would like to see ballots that have no party affiliation noted. I would like to eliminate the "straight party vote" option. I would like to see each ballot present candidates in random order - different for each voter so you would actually have to search for the person you want to vote for.
I would also like to see some sort of 'truth in advertising' requirement for campaign allegations. If you want to put on TV that 'GOP wants to starve your children' you should have to prove that there is actual evidence to support that allegation to the exclusion of any other reasonable conclusion.
You should be able to proclaim anything you want about yourself - "we will stop the seas from rising" should be ok - but you should NOT be able to smear the OTHER candidate with your stupidity. There should be criminal charges for such blatant perfidy.

good points man. Campaigns nowadays are less "look how I am better than my opponent" and more "look how much more he sux than me"

It was 3rd and 4th parties which plunged the nation into civil war during the 1860 election. A party realignment may be better and healthier.

It's Big FedGov that's hurting the USA.
If Constitutional Conservatism can win the day, we'd see some solutions to our problems.

quote:Actually the whole point of our government is to protect individual liberties. A nation doesn't create individuals by cellular division. Individuals come together with autonomous intent to create a nation. A nation can't exist without people, but people can exist without a nation. Thus, in a democratic society, the priorities should be pretty clear-cut.

The purpose of our government is stated clearly in the first sentence of the Constitution.
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Building up a nation that too often acts like the world's gendarme is NOT what our Founders had in mind. It amuses me when I read/hear so called Constitutional conservatives sounding an imperialist call for our foreign policy and then, out of the other side of their mouths they criticize liberals for creating "big Government!"

What's happening in the US is beyond Dimmerats and Republicons, the only way this country returns to the rightful place our fore fathers fought for is to fight against globalism, not to go down the conspiracy path because it is truly a rabbit hole but the direction the country has taken is unreal, helping/assisting China to become the next superpower, investing in Russia to make them a worthy foe once again, seeing a pattern, as they say follow the money/banks/corporations and the answer lies there.

Do you think increased cooperation and increased legislation is a "win" for the citizens of this country?

No, placing term limits on members of congress, after leaving office they should not be allowed to work as lobbyists, the circle jerk these politicians and corporations have going is the catalyst for the corruption IMHO.
