Cornel West sums up my feelings about Obama

quote:
"The thing is he posed as a progressive and turned out to be counterfeit," West says. "We ended up with a Wall Street presidency, a drone presidency, a national security presidency. The torturers go free. The Wall Street executives go free. The war crimes in the Middle East, especially now in Gaza, the war criminals go free. And yet, you know, he acted as if he was both a progressive and as if he was concerned about the issues of serious injustice and inequality and it turned out that he’s just another neoliberal centrist with a smile and with a nice rhetorical flair. And that’s a very sad moment in the history of the nation because we are—we’re an empire in decline. Our culture is in increasing decay. Our school systems are in deep trouble. Our political system is dysfunctional. Our leaders are more and more bought off with legalized bribery and normalized corruption in Congress and too much of our civil life. You would think that we needed somebody—a Lincoln-like figure who could revive some democratic spirit and democratic possibility."
And we ended up with a brown-faced Clinton. Another opportunist. Another neoliberal opportunist. It’s like, “Oh, no, don’t tell me that!” I tell you this, because I got hit hard years ago, but everywhere I go now, it’s “Brother West, I see what you were saying. Brother West, you were right. Your language was harsh and it was difficult to take, but you turned out to be absolutely right.” And, of course with Ferguson, you get it reconfirmed even among the people within his own circle now, you see. It’s a sad thing. It’s like you’re looking for John Coltrane and you get Kenny G in brown skin.

The reality is folks like West don't know what progressivism is. I recommend reading up on Woodrow Wilson in order to get an idea.

I've been reading Cornel West for 30 years. He is a Communist. He says as much. He is also a total idiot. And he needs to get his teefus fixed.

Obama is a complete joke, but not for many of the reasons West mentions. He wants somebody even more to the Left than Obama? No thanks.
Not only that, but imo West exposes some of his own prejudices. War crimes in Gaza? bullshite. Israel has a right to defend itself when those Hamas terrorists start lobbing bombs into their country. Why are so many black people anti-Semitic?
Same thing with his remark about Ferguson. So far there isn't one reason to believe that the police officer did anything wrong yet West expects Obama to act like Louis Farakhan in the matter? Preposterous.
Sorry LA, but I don't see much to be impressed about. West wants a guy who is more liberal, more anti-Israel, and even more of a race-baiter than Obama? What's commendable about that?

He should quit complaining about Obama. Otherwise no one will take him seriously.

I agree with a lot of what West is saying but what he's leaving out is that a lot of liberals turned on him when he slammed Obama for having a White mother and called him an Uncle Tom.

One reason for this is people like Cornell West.

Here is the thing with the Presidency, no matter who is in charge. The past couple decades have seen a large growth in Corporations and less and less small business.
Corporations have the ability to influence politicians. They control the politics...that's why an uber liberal President will move to the right, and an uber conservative will move to the left. Both end up in the middle embedded in crony capitalism. This is what keeps those in poverty from never moving up...the American dream is dead to them so we end up providing welfare.
It won't be fixed until the system crashes.
