Just started watching this. Does the actress that plays Lizzy get any better? She's not very good. Spader is excellent, of course.
No, She ruins the show in my opinion. I can deal with how predictable it has become because spader is great but she is just so terrible. One moment shes trying to act all badass/super cop then the next she chained up begging to be rescued. Im about to stop watching because of her. I watched this weeks and just cant stand her anymore.

The redd character is so good that it covers up the preposterous plot of the show. The premise is barely believable yet it's addictive because of Reddington and the unanswered question that hides throughout the entire show.

Took me 3 episodes to realize that his butler/hand was Skinny Pete

It's an action packed soap opera with lots of violence. Best thing on the old school big network channels but that's not saying much.

The Reddington character is ridiculously written and I really can't stand the lead female FBI character. The plots are implausible. The relationship between Red and an U.S. federal agency is bizarre to say the least but still I watch. It mostly entertains but its just one of those shows where you feel dumber for having watched.

It's not The Americans or Justified, but it's pretty damned entertaining (and, as noted, is a damned sight better than what's on the big networks these days).

As far as "episodic" tv goes, (where new villians/challenges are confronted/thwarted weekly and tied into a nice little bow), it's pretty solid. Kind of like how House was.
But The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, House of Cards, Game Of Thrones, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, and even Heroes...have made me roll my eyes at episodic, non-chronological network TV.
The writing suffers on network episodic tv because they have to produce 30+ shows per season. They also have to dumb down the storylines/plot devices for mass audience comprehension. And they have to make each episode stand on its own (sort of like a pilot), in case some granny tunes in mid-season and starts watching it. It's filler for me.

No, and I like James Spader. I tried to watch it, but it sucks.
I've given up on network shows at this point.

I think it's the only network drama I watch.
This is what has kept me from starting it, I guess I need to give it a go though.

Probably not. Won't touch network TV

Its good if you have time to kill but it isn't "Must See TV".

Hulu needs to put on season 2!
Hulu? Why wouldn't you use any of the other free streaming sites that don't have commercials? Here is the one I use: [link=(free-tv-video-online.me)]LINK[/link]
ETA: I don't know why the link feature isn't working but you can copy and paste the address from there.

There's enough mystery behind Spader's character to keep you watching.
And mystery is what is sorely lacking in most network dramas. Usually, they will write in some "genius" who figures things out too quickly and too conveniently, but really he is there to guide the audience so they don't have to think at all.
I started binge watching The Blacklist season one on Netflix. But it is 22 episodes long.
There was enough mystery for me to watch the first 15 episodes, but then I got tired of the new dilemma/villian introduced each episode and started fast-forwarding through the villians on-screen and watched only the parts of the main characters so I could get my questions answered. It was pretty solid.

Pretty solid viewing. As others have indicated, Spader makes the show.

It's ok.
Personally I enjoyed the first 4-5 epsisodes, then just started getting bored with it.
