CCNP R/S is a fairly high level networking cert to not have a a networking gig. Did you have a networking gig when you decided to get the cert?

One of my direct coworkers has a CCNP and isn't doing networking anymore.. I see a pattern lol

OSCP = incredibly hard
Yes, but the challenge seems very much worth it.

yes but the issue with the test isn't the martial. Its how they want you to answer.
I find this a common problem with certifications that aren't very challenging. It's like they want more credibility so they make it harder than it should be.

depends. alot of employers will have no clue what an OSCP cert is. as far as building your skill, yes worth it. But if your trying to stand out to employers not named Mandient/Fire Eye, etc just go get your CISSP. It's still the biggest thing employers/HR depts look for when hiring infosec people.

It's more for myself aactually. I'm not a pentester or infosec guru... just wanting to boost my own skillset.

Gotcha... Well good luck if you go that route. I'd say that is the most difficult technical InfoSec cert available right now except maybe GSE.

quote:Actually, I resigned a support position and then completed my CCNP. I was fully expecting to re-enter networking, but my new gig pays quite a bit more than a typical CCNP qualified Network Engineer, so I got lucky in that regard.

Otherwise, there seems to be quite a few openings for CCNP-level Cisco Network Engineers in my area (NOLA) that are paying about $40/hr on average. I know I get contacted almost daily lol.

Do you currently work in NOLA (my area as well).
I'm pretty invested in Networking at this point and can't see ever changing; nor do I want to. I'm even planning on taking a shot(or 3), at the CCIE once I'm finished up with this wireless cert.
I enjoy it and I get compensated well. Can't ask for much more I suppose.

I have certifications and electrical and instrumentation. Can someone tell me what this field is like how to go about getting into it? What the demand is? And how hard is it?
I would really like to get into this...how would I go about learning the basics?

I would probably do A+ if it got me a job but experience is such a bigger factor.

A+ is good for people looking to get into IT. I have an A+ but I just did it to have years ago.

It helps but I'm not exactly in a tech city that has much for jobs either. I would have to luck into a position or know someone.
Where do you guys look for tech jobs? Is there a more tech oriented job site?

So I completed the OSCP exam this weekend. It was the most challenging but rewarding few months in my professional career. I put probably 300+ hours of study in over the 3 months, and the test was absolutely brutal. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

I'll probably go for the JNCIA soon, then CCNP.
