A federal judge has indefinitely postponed the trial of Roland Bourgeois Jr., accused of firing a shotgun at three black men in Algiers in the wake of Hurricane Katrina after warning that he intended to shoot “anything coming up this street darker than a brown paper bag.”

Well that's easy!

Nothing easy about it at all.

Sure it is. You try to kill three black men because you hate blacks. You even hit one with a shotgun who almost died. Then you just never stand trial! That's EASY.

The move comes after a long series of delays and questions about whether Bourgeois is competent to stand trial.

U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon on Friday granted a motion to continue a trial date for Bourgeois “until the defendant attains the physical competency to assist his attorney and to attend trial.”
in the federal system, this is rare. there is likely ample evidence of the infirmities of the defendant

Sure there is. He's luck he's incompetent because he's guilty as sin.

Shouldn't there be an actual trial before a guy is labeled as guilty? I know NOTHING about this case but that is what our legal system is supposed to be based on, right?

I can label as guilty whenever I like (like millions did to Trayvon Martin). Its only the government that can't deem him guilty without trial. He declared he was going to shoot any blacks he saw - then he shot one and tried to shoot two others. Slam dunk.

Not really the best analogy since the guy that shot him wasn't convicted, no?

Gets the trial postponed for 14 years, pleads guilty, sentenced to 10 years, dies less than a week into his sentence.

A man who admitted shooting three black men in a racist attack in Algiers shortly after Hurricane Katrina died Feb. 19, less than a week after he was sentenced to spend 10 years in federal prison, officials said Wednesday.

Roland Bourgeois, 56, was in federal custody at the Plaquemines Parish jail when he was found unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead after his relatives had a chance to see him, according to authorities.
The chief investigator for the Plaquemines Parish Coroner’s Office, Charles Guey, said there was no indication that Bourgeois died from anything other than natural causes.

It’s in New Orleans so the man was probably a Democrat

Points for creativity on that one.
