Some people like the newly found tradition and some people think its stupid. Nonetheless its still an LSU tradition that means something to the players!

What do you think Terrance Magee will put up this year with Hillard, Buga and Williams?
Who you say will continue the tradition next year?
Pay your respects!

I think #18 is a waste of time and it does not make a bit of difference. I would want to keep MY NUMBER
How does changing the number on your shirt make a difference how talented or how hard you run and hit? It does not!!! Period
However, if it makes the players feel better then it is fine. Just don't need Dandy's son or others making a big deal out of it and I feel it needs no press...

The media and scouts know what it stands for. Winning the award gets that person extra press, and I would bet has helped some of the less talented recipients with the NFL.
By the way, you sound drunk in your rant.

I honestly want to know why people care so much about this? If the players like it, fine. But why do rantards care about this so much that 100 threads a day are started over this?

Numbers hold special meanings to a lot of players. Why is that so hard for some of you to understand?

I don't hate it, I actually couldn't give less fricks. I'm just curious on why so many grown men jack off to this at night.

The same reason your complaining about it.

Lord have mercy, there are some miserable shites on this friggin board. If the team and the players want to honor one of themselves in this manner, then shut your trap and curse someone else with your misery.

So hester got it as a freshman before he even played a single game? seems strange that he would have gotten it if the tradition had already started.

Because it hadn't. This has morphed over the years specifically after Hester and Mauck had the # back to back.
This is one "tradition" that I don't care a lick about...mostly because there is no significance to the number itself. Mauck was a solid player and the first QB in 45 years to lead an LSU team to a national championship. But suggesting his number was significant and therefore ought to be handed down like some relic is silly.
If we want to do that with a number, bring #20 out of retirement and give that to one special player each year. That's a number that actually does hold some relevance in the program.
As far as handing out a number...cool...if the guys like it then fine. But #18? Eh...

They never played for more than a year or two, no experience

I personally like the number 7 tradition on defense that we almost had started.

Again...if the guys want to do it themselves than fine. But #7 has been a great number at LSU on both sides of the ball
Like I said, my lack of interest in the #18 thing has far less to do with the tradition of handing down a special number to a deserving player than it does with decided #18 is that number. Seems pretty arbitrary to be honest to have picked #18.
