You gonna lose that tooth. Your dentists kills are not what I would consider as adequate to perform root canals.

Just FYI, local a esthetics don't work we'll at all on infected tissue. That's the most likely reason for you hurt like hell.

this doesnt make any sense, fake scientist. You cant even make up a plausible story on the OT. Anesthetics are to deal with nerves. Unless your nerves are encased in carbonite and dont connect to your brain, except wirelessly, ahh frick it. you're a complete buffoon and a liar.
He's probably talking about an intrapulpal injection. Sometimes a "hot" tooth won't get numb from a local injection or a nerve block. In these cases, sometimes an injection directly into the pulp (or "nerve" within the tooth) is the only thing that will get it numb. But first you have to drill through the enamel and the dentin, which will hurt like a sonofabitch since it isn't numb. Once you drill "deep enough" and expose the pulp chamber, you can then inject directly into it and finally get adequate anesthesia.
And a good dentist can handle just about any routine root canal, but a good dentist will make even the most difficult root canals look textbook. I almost never did molars, unless things were really slow at the time. Occasionally I'd throw the endodontist an easy tooth, but only if it was a real pain in the arse patient.
ETA: despite root canals being one of my least favorite things, my success rate was well over 95%. The key to a high success rate is good case selection. But I've seen endodontists do things that I considered physically impossible.

This. And sometimes we just have to get the job done on a "hot tooth" because antibiotics and pain meds just aren't going to get an extremely hyperemic pulp settled down. Sucks for the patient, and I sure as hell don't like it on my end. But not everything is a bed of roses.

I rarely did root canals on teeth that were hurting badly. I'd put them on antibiotics and good pain meds, it would settle down in a day or two, then I'd get them in when I could work when I had adquate time available. Typically that was a week later, but no one complained because they would virtually always calm down with antibiotics (even without swelling). If it didn't calm down in a day or two, I'd have them call me and I'd send them to an endodontist. Doing a root canal on a hot tooth that won't calm down is BAD for word of mouth and referrals.

Correct. But once every couple years we get one that just won't react and we've got to do what we've got to do. It's not often, and I hope it stays that way.
Those are the ones that you access and there is no necrosis or infection whatsoever. Just a blood bath. Usually in the ones that will react, you access and there is no coronal pulp and/or there is tissue in 2 canals but the 3rd is necrotic... You can tell that tissue is on its way out due to no blood flow, etc.

Yeah, you will get some out of the blue that unexpectedly won't get numb for shite. And usually in the middle of those I'd be saying to myself, "Frick this, I'm never doing another root canal as long as I live."

I had a root canal today. The tooth was more infected than the dentist thought. She had to inject several rounds of anesthetic (which it turns out I am resistant to) and had to drill through quite a bit of stuff to access the places where she needed to inject it to numb things up enough. The procedure was excruciatingly painful until after about 10 injections or so. Midway through she apologized for telling me it wouldn't be that bad.
Dentists don't have vaginas, dumbass.
Dental assistants have vaginas. That bitch was pretending to be a dentist.

I am in the Philippines now and the dental care is good and cheap. I can walk in off the street and get the work done. In the US I waited weeks for an appointment and had to go back several times and usually end up with a bill at or near at least a $1000.00. Every time I went in there was something that needed filling and it would cost me. Here I have never had a filling or any problems with my teeth in 10 years. I still have them.
I have met a number of people from Australia, U.S. and Europe who come here to get their dental done and the money they save pays for the vacation. The link is an example of prices in Manila, but I live in Cebu and the prices are even lower.

My real mistake was to get it filled by a dentist in Mexico. The filling sucked an allowed the tooth to decay to the point a root canal was needed. It was part of a 10 cavities for $300 deal. I got what I paid for.
Maybe if you brush your teeth like a normal person, and didn't have a diet of salt water taffy, Reese's cups and RC Cola, you wouldn't have 10 cavities to get filled by the same chick who cleans my house, you fat fricking phony scientist.
Hope you feel better soon

I'm sure you started talking politics after you got hit with anesthesia...that's when she lowered the hammer on your sorry arse.

Had a hot tooth and was targeted for a root canal. He patched it with an anesthetic filling to calm it down and went after it a month later.
Last week he prepped it for a crown and avoided the root canal. fricking awesome dentist.
Eta: while I have 2 insurance coverages, it would setback the uninsured $1800/tooth.
