Plus didn't he sit out some strike games that were supposed to count and MLB later decided that they wouldn't count?

No. The "strike games" were in 1981. Ripken wasn't even in the Majors yet.

Pretty much any old baseball pitching records:

Wins:511
Losses: 316
Shutouts: 110
Innings Pitched: 7,354
Complete Games: 749
Wins in Season: 59 (beast mode)
Losses in Season: 48 (rough year)

this. the game of baseball has evolved in such a way that these records are impossible to match. records like dimaggios hit streak, wilts 100 points, etc while likely not to fall, could be broken. there is no way that any of those pitching records will be broken.

What a useless record. It's like winning a perfect attendance ribbon. Means nothing regarding production or usefulness.

Actually, it does. Nobody plays that many games in a row unless they are productive for an extremely long time.

Ricky Henderson - Stolen Bases 1,406

Yep. I'd also throw in his 130 SB in a single season.

Base stealing just seems to be a lost art these days in the Majors. During Henderson's era, you had quite a few of the best SB performers...Otis Nixon, Vince Coleman was an animal, Tim Raines, Marquis Grissom.

I enjoyed watching baseball in the late 80's to early 90's because of that. Don't really watch any more.

What's the deal with black people not playing as much baseball nowadays.

I can't believe no one has brought Phelps into the conversation.

Gold medals-18 (second place has 9)
Total medals-22

And he could move both of those up if he actually goes through with his comeback and swims in the next Olympics.

Slightly more obscure hockey one besides Wayne Gretzky's amazing ones, 50 in 39, 215 points etc.

Most Consecutive Playoff Series Victories: 19, by the 1980–1984 New York Islanders.
-4 Consecutive Stanley Cup Titles and then going to the Finals in the 5th year.

This is the record in all North American pro sports. I'd say the NBA would have the best chance to beat this.
