Well that's the thing isn't it? John 14:6 really cuts the matter to the bone. There is no wiggle room there. Either you believe what Jesus said in John 14:6 or you don't. And if what he said in that verse is true, then the rest has to be true. It's pretty much an all or nothing type deal.

nothing for me, then. that was the first of many things that led me away from religion

scares me that other people dont look at it the same way. poor bastards that got born into muslim and jewish and buddhist families are just fricked because they werent lucky enough to be born into a christian family? no way

Well that's a decision we each have to make for ourselves. You've made your choice and while it's different from mine, I respect it. Just do yourself a favor and never settle in and stop searching for truth.

Another reason I go to the church I do - the doctrine that people who did not have the opportunity to learn the gospel while living on Earth will have the opportunity to do so in the next life. (I couldn't imagine a god who would just abandon so many of his children because of the circumstances of the birth - the entire system he created.)

There are plenty of people who are born into a christian family that dont have a relationship with Jesus and are on a path to destruction. It's not about what family you're born into, what you were raised, etc. The Holy Spirit can capture anyone's heart.

I totally get that. But think it through.

Suppose you'd never tasted steak. Somebody tells you it tastes like pee. So you never try it because someone said something distasteful about it. But the steak still tastes like steak.

Read some. Talk to thoughtful people. (I'm not putting down the poster here; he's sincere, but you may benefit from a more nuanced discussion.). You've got a spiritual side no matter what you reject or believe. Delve into it.

There's a lot to Jesus. Don't take the word of someone else, or the culture, about who he is. Figure it out on your own.

ETA: Dearth Vader said this quicker than me, and better.

Don't worry about us, we get to come back and give it another shot. Hindus too. I feel bad for the poor bastards that don't get a do-over.
