Like I said, he could've obviously done a few things differently.

I saw the story last night on the news. A few things I took from the piece:
1) Drugs have to be involved in some capacity. There's no way he collected all of the money the home owners claim, not pay his material suppliers, and not have that much money to pay the bills.
2) The female home owner shown in the piece was .
3) Estes' name, reputation, business, and credit are officially fricked over this deal. Whatever he tote himself into, it worked him over big time.

There is no legit reason for the kid to be in that position. He's either on pills, gambling, or spending too much personally. To say he bit off to big a chunk is like a ghetto mom saying her murdering robbing gang member thug with multiple unsupported illegitimate kids is a good boy in crackerese.

No doubt. I'd bet my last dollar that drugs or a new piece of pussy was his downfall. Pussy has ruined empires over the course of time and is often considered the most addictive drug out there.

Why is it that contractors are always broke?

Honestly, I have no idea if he's on drugs. I've met him several times and never saw evidence of it. But I've never seen him outside of a professional setting. I do know that he just built himself a beautiful home in that walled-in area at the end of West End. It was on some home tour thing recently, and I heard it's unbelievable. That's probably a good place to look for the $$.
I've heard rumblings that his work is nice on the surface but there's problems after that.

seems like alcohol and drugs are usually involved too....guess that has to do with the stress

Just lock me in a room with him for 3.4 minutes. Gimme a short rope, a ball peen, and WD40.

Another thing to consider is he might not have been making money. He's got all this work but the present job is paying for the last job. That happens to a lot of building contractors.

Poor accounting controls on budgets that size and bad cash flow management can sink a contracting business very quickly.
I'm not saying it wasn't drugs, but thats not the only way it could happen.

If he had been ripping people off, there's no way his company would've gotten that big that quick. You don't last long or put up the number of houses in the Nola area he did over the last 3-4 years without your customers having positive experiences. The news channels had this guy on their morning shows and sh*t.
I know a guy in the NOLA area in construction (not a home builder) and he ripped off dozens upon dozens of people and had a terrible reputation. It just took years for it to catch up to him. He did it for years and advertised all over the place. He was the biggest in his niche. Stiffed one of his suppliers for close to a million dollars.
You think the morning show producers go out and fact check to see if the home's someone is building are built correctly?

Not just contractors. A lot of people get in to small businesses for themselves not realizing what they are biting off.

People live off of the business instead of paying themselves a salary and live within the means of the salary is the biggest issue. You can't take a 200k check for payment of services and think you instantly have 200k of expendable income.
