It's looking like I'll be going on my first inshore trip on Thursday and I have no idea what to expect. I've grown up in a family that ran a freshwater guide service but know nothing about salt water. Anything I should know about going into this that might make the trip better?

Bring the captain a banana.

If the captain is good, you'll be alright. Just have fun.

What fish will be targeted? Has the guide given you an idea of how they're doing right now? I fished inshore out of Savannah several times with guides and it was average to below average, but I'm used to fishing south LA marsh and it's hard to compete with that. Having realistic expectations based on how the fishing is this time of year and having a good personable guide will go a long way. I've had a couple of good inshore red fishing trips out of Charleston.
Good luck and have fun. You will be fine if you're already a fisherman. Biggest thing for me in going from freshwater to saltwater was hookset. I was used to a bass hookset where I was trying to rip their lips off and that doesn't work across the board in saltwater especially when using circle hooks.

Mostly going after reds, speckled trout and flounder I think. Honestly after growing up around guides I'll just target what they think will have the best success.
I've only used circle hooks a handful of times but hard hooksets are something I have to make myself do after growing up with trout.

You shouldn't be using actual circle hooks for anything inshore. You can't set the hook like a bass with trout as their mouths are a lot softer, but you can set the hook.
If you do for some reason use actual circle hooks, just let the fish run with it. It's got to find it's way to the corner of the mouth. Setting the hook will just pull it out.

Show up and go fishing. Bring your food and drinks. It's a charter.
