Unless they don't believe in wearing rings at all, then to me they're not engaged.

I don't feel like they are traditionally engaged. But they are in their views engaged to each other.

Either they're too poor for him to afford a ring and pay for a wedding, she pressured him into proposing and he has no plans of marrying her, or she's been cheating on her but he's too spineless to break it off with her and maybe has even deluded himself into thinking that it's a good thing that she sleeps woth ofher men
