I'd still go to law school. Having a law degree even if you don't practice law opens up a lot of doors.
This depends on the persons background. Law student with a degree in political science, English, or history is not likely to have many doors open for them outside of a job in the legal field.
Law student with a business background getting their MBA will.

Maybe I am biased, because this is what I have, but I think a CPA is about the most valuable somewhat "easily obtainable"(easy in it doesnt take a bunch of extra schooling, the test sucked) designation someone can get for opening multiple doors. You have the guaranteed public accounting route if you want it, or you can really use it for anything in business. I was pleasantly surprised how many companies love to see a younger person with their CPA

No it doesn't. Virtually every employer who is looking for a job which does not require a JD thinks applicants with a JD fit into one of three categories which are bad for your chances: 1) you couldn't hack it as a lawyer (wouldn't or won't work hard and thus wouldn't be a good fit); 2) you are using their job as a transition job to get back to/wait for a law job; 3) you are overqualified and would be bored doing their nonlaw job.
The height of irony is outside the legal field, a JD can often handicap your chances of getting a job.
