And all the hitters were recruited by Javi. What's your point? Also, Javi was a big part of everyone's recruitment, pitchers too. And the biggest strength of the classes over the years were the guys he was about to get out of state like Bregman and Dean.
He was an excellent recruiter. All the former players are singing his praises as a person, mentor, and motivator. That's very important, but Perhaps it's telling that they aren't singing his praises as a hitting coach as much? I hope Andy can get guys as good as Javi did. And I hope he has the ability and freedom to coach and teach and mentally prepare the hitters so that they reach their potential.

Dean was already at LSU when Dean came. When Javi recruited Bregman he didn't even know his high school coach Columbus played for LSU
I flew back with Javi from Houston earlier this year and LSU had played games that weekend that Javi missed to recruit. Baseball recruiting is more of a grind than football. They are at tournaments all summer and have to recruit a lot during the season itself. There's nothing to evaluate in the fall other than bringing them to football games for visits if they choose to do that.

Columbus wasn't Bregmans high school coach.

When Javi says he's leaving for a business opportunity back in Miami, his home town, but adds there is nothing specific in mind just yet, that pretty much tells it all as to why he's leaving. He's 32-34 yrs old, young family, and he's leaving a well paid job for...nothing specific? His comments in the paper bout leaving home in the morning & his child is still asleep & then returning home in the late evening & the child is asleep again, I can see that getting very old at his age. But no one quits a job to move out of state & has no job waiting for him.CPM made this call, plain as day. And LSU's offensive game plan is CPM 's too, make no mistake about that, either. Bottom line, this will all fall on CPM's head, good or bad.

Did PM make this call, this has a hint of Alleva in it if you ask me. Bottom line, no one on this board knows how much work these coaches really put in and it does take a toll but someone that young can't get burned out.

People put way too much blame on a hitting coach. They're mostly just an extension of their manager's hitting philosophy.

While I agree with this, I have never understood our lack of hitting the ball to the opposite field and consequently, our struggles with offspeed pitches. I think that at least that much lies with the hitting coach.

Yep. It's not like high school where you micro-manage every single element of a hitter's stance, swing, etc. Hitting has so much to do with being comfortable and in the right mental frame of mind. Mainieri has always instilled an aggressive mentality at the plate and on the basepaths and I don't think that'll change unless Canizaro comes in guns a blazin. I'd say the if you want to point fingers for our hitting woes last year, they should be mostly either pointed at Mainieri or the fact that we lost Rhymes, Jones, Katz.
I like the idea of some fresh blood, though, especially one with deep ties to Louisiana baseball and many connections in pro ball throughout the country. Canizaro sounds like a solid replacement and potential upgrade.

The guy who told me "Javi-Out, Cannizaro-In" back on June 17 also told me Skip was quoted late in the season:
"Something HAS to be done this off season"

Best of luck to Javi Sanchez and his family. Thanks for doing the best job you were capable of doing while at LSU.Again, best of luck to you and your family in the future.Too bad Matt Deggs the ULL recruiter and hitting coach wasn't available as he just became head coach at SHSU.Deggs has been a success everywhere he has been and is the reason for the sucess ULL has experienced.

Didnt cannizaro beat Skip in Skips last game?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 11:20 am to LSU=Champions
23 pages in less than 24 hours. I expect it'll hit 24 at least. A page an hour or better, man I'm gonna miss Javi.

Yes. Game 3 at Zephyr Field. Cannizaro went 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB. Tulane advanced to the CWS that year.
