I’m new to looking at CCA. I've been looking at the 2012 Form 990 and I assume all chapters are under the same CCA umbrella as far as IRS is concerned. Does anyone know if the Louisiana’s STAR tournament money revenue is included in Line 8a on Part VIII? On Schedule G for 2012, they list 266 fundraising "events" with the first event being “Fishing Tourneys”. Does every state have its own STAR Tournament?
If I’m looking at 2012 correctly, “Fishing Tourneys” gross revenue $1,607,299 minus $512,788 non-cash prizes and minus $436,400 other direct expenses giving net income of $658,111 from “Fishing Tourneys”.
If Event #2 is “Banquet & Auction”, Does anyone know what the “Other events” are? They are by far the meat and potatoes of CCA’s revenue and expense.

It's $50. You spend more in one trip on gas getting down to where you are fishing. . .
That being said, all of you that are against the STAR, have you NEVER purchased any raffle ticket? Ever? Not saying lottery, although there are similarities there as well.
But what about the raffle tickets at your church fair, or for LSU tickets, or for God knows what else?! You are getting no guarantee that you will win, but you are paying a small price for a chance to win something that would otherwise cost you hundreds (or thousands, even)
How is the STAR any different?

not understanding the people who say, "it's only $50." do they just go around throwing 50 dollars away? i'd much rather use that 50 dollars on a charity that helps people or buy something of value than padding the pockets of some lobbyists or secretaries who make 6 figures a year because no one questions the organization.

It's more about padding my garage with a brand new bay boat, but okay. Go drop $50 on a charity that's only giving back 10% to the people.
To be honest dude, some scumbag somewhere is making money off everything you do, so you might as well give it to someone with similar interests and concerns.

Are you saying you never waste $50?
Look at your purchases for the last week- did you need every single thing you bought? More than likely you have spent more than $50 this week alone on frivolous things.

you're just trading one for another. . . you think every nonprofit organization spends 100% of your donation on the cause?
They have salaries to pay too- BIG salaries! and then operating expenses. only a small fraction of your donation will ever "help" someone in need.

yes
tons of charities give a lot more than 10%. hell, i'd rather give 50 dollars to a homeless guy on the street than give to some fat cat who just socializes and makes 6 figures a year. i'd rather give to someone who has nothing even if he does nothing than give more to someone who has a lot and does nothing.

These homeless people you'd rather help have the entire world at their hands and choose to do nothing. C'mon man just stop.
Eta: and lol for thinking CCA does "nothing"

So what is stopping you? Just do $20 and a 40oz in a paper sack and he will appreciate it more. Plus you save $25.
Ultimately, if you give $50 to charity, you get nothing but that good feeling back, which is fine. CCA gives you a chance to win a boat.
Plus they lobby for sportsmen, just not trespassing sportsmen.

so they are going to ride on the gillnet ban coattails for the rest of time?
they haven't done anything since the early 1990s

I am not going to get heavily into this topic but giving money to CCA provides funds to hire people who monitor anything and everything that has a regulatory impact on fishing, etc. CCA pays them to flag any new legislation that is trying to be forced through or passed without public knowledge. They have people that just sit and read all new proprosal for this purpose. CCA will flag them and then bring them up to the proper individuals. I bet you didnt know that an individual from New Orleans attached a gill net approval to a bill not related and this was caught and shot down. These are the things that people like you never hear of and the reason you never hear anything about it is because it is tabled or declined before the public even knows. Fishing resources are always under siege. They provide a necessary service so that we still have a resource to fish.

link?
if it ever passed, in that highly unlikely event, would be vetoed very quickly

You sound like a dick.
If they are working diligently to thwart of this constant barrage of anti angling legislation, they need to speak up.
If I were a lobbying group depending on private donations to operate, every single positive thing I did would be shouted from the rooftops. That would raise both awareness and funds.
You're saying that CCA is doing great work behind the scenes, we just don't know about it. Prove it, why keep it under wraps? Why not inform the people you are asking for money what the money is being spent on?
