'the shield' vs. 'sons of anarchy' (potential spoilers)

both shows have shared some fingerprints (first and foremost, kurt sutter....but also jay karnes, kenny johnson, benito martinez, david rees snell, and walton goggins, off the top of my head), and seem like they could've existed in the same alternate universe. also, kosic's "oh, shite" death in SOA was definitely a 'shield' inside joke, juice was watching 'the shield' while in a holding cell, etc...if you noticed any other callbacks, feel free to post 'em.
which one do you like more? admittedly, i'm still a few eps shy of SOA (should be done in the next day or so), and i enjoy it alot, but i've gotta give the nod to 'the shield'. while not always perfect, the momentum & tension continued escalating throughout the series....while i'm a fan of SOA, the momentum tended to unintentionally go up & down, and some of the characters' decisions seemed disingenuous, as if the writers needed an excuse to advance the storyline further (season 2 finale was a HUGE offender IMO). that said, when shite's going off the rails, SOA is some damn good TV....but 'the shield' is still the gold standard IMO...
edit: apologies if this thread is beating a dead horse....i did a search & it came up empty.

Sutter has clearly expressed that they exist in the same universe.
Couldn't stand the kid, so I didn't watch SOA after the first 3 or 4 episodes. I think I made the right choice.
The Shield is my GOAT and in the same league as Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad -
SOA...isn't.

To me they both hit the same mark with me. I really really liked the early seasons and then they both just became to way over the top with cheesy action scenes and over the top acting.
Having said that, I still enjoyed both of them and will defiently be watching the final season of Sons.

SOA is wayyyy too unrealistic for me to enjoy. I also think the acting is cliche and lame IMO

The shield is exponentially better.. not even a comparison. I agree with soa being pulpy escapism.

Sons of Anarchy. It is one of the most suspenseful TV shows out there right now. So much shite happens in each episode

It's not even close really. SoA has been shite since the S3 finale. The Shield is one of the goats.

I really like sons. It's absurd at times but a ton of tv shows are.
I couldn't stand chiklas or however you spell it. Just couldn't stand anything about him. Shield wasn't for me. First episode ending was awesome but couldn't keep watching.

The Shield
The only major player from The Shield to not make a cameo in SOA is Mackey, I'm hoping Sutter has him for the final season.

when watching a couple of SOA eps last night to almost get completely caught up, it reminded me of something obvious between the shows (it's not necessarily limited to these shows....i once commented about it on 'justified', too)....seemed like these characters might've actually gotten away with more shite if the female characters were kept in the dark.
on SOA, gemma (and to a lesser extent, tara) is so meddlesome & manipulative, their participation usually causes more harm than good, and usually results in the gang having to go from A to C, D, and E before landing on B. on 'the shield', look at mara (and by extension, her mom) and corrine. if mara wasn't in the loop, the strike team might possibly have gotten away with the money train & the drama that followed. and corrine....while maybe she can't technically be "blamed" for anything, the pressure she put on vic wasn't exactly realistic. she continued harping "we need more money for our family", as if she was oblivious of vic's salary ....then when vic comes through, she's like "where did this come from??" the guy couldn't win with her, lol....
the male characters were already bad enough on their own, but the female characters were like the proverbial gasoline poured on the fire
edit: on an unrelated note, i just found out that courtney love is signed on for season 7 of SOA....why, oh why???

I enjoyed Sons of Anarchy through the second to the last episode of season two. Hated the last episode that year & the four or five episodes I watched in season three. Quit watching after that.
