Fishing from the bridge in Grand Isle advice

Gonna be down in Grand Isle next month for a few days and may fish the bridge at night.
I know there are some accomplished bridge
fisherman out there...tips would be appreciated!
Also, where are some of the better places to gig for flounder?
I've gigged the beaches and Elmer's Island with limited success. Any advice?
Thanks in advance, Gents!

Small white bream bait works like a champ on the bridge. Check the tides to see what times are best but I like to try and get out there after 2 am. I always fish the island side and find the bigger trout at the 2nd and 3rd light.
Tons of great places to flounder, but it's become real popular as of late. Seem to always run into somebody in the normal spots these days.

Caught 150 or so white trout last week under the lights. Small tandem shad rigs did the damage. The darker colors worked better.

What do you do with 150 white trout ?

I haven't fished the bridge in years however when we did as others have said we used small white and chartreuse jigs.
The other tip when we fished it we used a white perch pole or even a cane pole so that when the fish hit you just flung them on the bridge rather than reeling them up and having them flop off the hook. We used to fill coolers up with white and speckled trout.
150 white trout are excellent eating, especially the ones the bridges tend to produce the 7-10" fish that fry up like potato chips!

Fly rod casting clouser's or shrimp imitations and stripping it right under the surface.
You will outcatch the people around you 5:1 or even more.
I've found the gummy minnows work pretty darn well too.

color doesnt matter, I usually use glow though. Go to academy and look for the panfish lures, rig them up on double jigheads. For reds, heavy weight with at least 50lb test, pier net, white trout, mullet, shad as bait.

Appreciate the responses.
We were talking about lowering laterns down to the water, as well. Is that worth it or are the bridge lights enough?
Oh and white trout, in my experience, taste just fine; just doesn't freeze too well.

As stated above, think small baits with 1/32 oz jig heads on cane poles or ultra light rods. If needed add a split shot 1' up the line for extra casting ability...

quote:I was down there weekend before last and gigged in front of those houses on the opposite side of the bridge as the pier. Right there in the bend there is a dock w/ lights shining into the water. Right past it there is a lil rock wall. I got 4 flounder in 50 yards right t here between the lit dock and the rocks.

I was out there a few weeks back and was bringing in a trout (mostly whites, although I did catch a few specks) nearly every cast.
This group of about 5 guys next to me couldn't buy a bite. . .
I was throwing them back, so they asked me if they could kindly leave a bucket next to me so that I could throw them in there instead of back into the water. I had about 40 6-7" whites in the bucket by the time I left, at which point I think they had finally caught 3 or 4.
