It can be one or the other but not both. Quit being a pussy.

Disregard every picture you have ever seen of the Grand Canyon. None of them do it justice compared to actually standing on the edge looking at it.

What they said.
Also, you know how it was formed? True story- two Jews dropped a quarter down a rabbit hole.

Did a 7 day/6 night float trip some years back. Visually, as stunning as you can imagine. The history, guides, whitewater (not racist), just everything is amazing. A couple of years later drove the south rim and concur with the opinions that we did not allot enough time.
I can not imagine what settlers must have thought when the wagon train pulled up to the rim and they looked into it.

Yes, went there as a teenager with my parents (Over 20 years ago).
Standing at the top of course it is a gorgeous view. Decided we would hike down it a bit. Bad idea if you are not in shape.
I was a skinny teenage and not an athlete. Coming back up sucked arse. If you go down on foot, make sure you are in good enough shape to come back up!

Was there in January in 2011 when we went to the Auburn/Oregon National Championship game. Only got to stay one day. Spent most of the day in the car.
Um, it was cold. 20 deg, about two feet of snow and a 40 mph wind... Um, it was cold. LOL
It was my first trip and I will be going back soon so I can hike down into the canyon. Unreal place and it will be worth the trip

The Sundance Kid
Carry plenty of water and make sure to hike all the way down.
Also, make sure to visit Havasu Falls at the bottom. It's a hidden paradise.
Thank me later.

If you hike down to the base of the canyon, be prepared for a temp differential of +/- 25 degrees warmer at the base than on the rim

My brother just did a two week rafting trip with a group of 14 earlier in June. He had a freaking blast.
Packed out a ton of food, beers, and supplies and just paddled and hiked for two weeks.

If you are wanting to do a hike to the bottom and back in one day...start EARLY and bring a ton of water with you.
Also, I'm assuming you are already pretty active. People train for Grand Canyon hikes. I see many people on local trails here with weighted vests or full backpacks training for Grand Canyon hikes.
Have fun! I've been to the Grand Canyon many times but have never hiked it. It is on my bucket list for sure.
Also...do a helicopter tour of GC. Well worth every penny you pay, the views you see from the helicopter are amazing and you will not get those views any other way.
