Why would the president fight so hard for contraception mandate?

Why would the Obama administration, having won the legislative struggle to get Obamacare passed and fought a brutal legal battle to prevent it from being overturned by the Supreme Court, risk another visit to that fickle tribunal by insisting on this egregious mandate?
An answer is suggested by the President’s recent nomination of William B. Schultz to head the legal team at Health & Human Services. Never heard of Mr. Schultz? He is an attorney and long-time lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry. He has been acting general counsel for HHS since last year. What has this to do with the contraception mandate? Well, as Tim Carney of the Washington Examiner has pointed out, Schultz’s biggest client was “Barr Laboratories, maker of the morning-after contraception pill known as Plan B.”

They're framing a narrative. Young single women (incl single mothers) grew up with all kinds ideas regarding what they're entitled to RE: sexual health and reproduction. It resonates, and women 18-33 or so are growing into an important voting block. They have more money, independence, and political conviction than at any time in history.
"War on women" rhetoric may well end up paying better dividends than racial identity/grievance politics ever did for either party. And you'll always have some old fn relic say something during an election to fan the flames (i.e. real rape vs. other kinds, etc).

You know some old right wing nut will make a ridiculous statement and further piss off women about rape or such. OK at least twice. Add to this the fuel from this decision and 95% of the women's vote will pave a way for a Hillary victory.
It's a political move ands nothing to do with the violation of women's rights. Yea I am cynical.

There is no way in hell women would vote 95 percent for Hillary. She isn't that popular among older and married conservative women. She would get 70 percent or so of young single women but would do poorly among older and married women

Could be but still 70% is a ton.

Because it deflects the attention from tragedies and coverups such as Benghazi.

Boy isn't that the truth! Only thing I would've added was #tcot.

Because it is not free.
Just because someone wants something, that doesn't constitute a "right".
I am not against women buying whatever they want concerning contraception, just don't ask me to pay for it.
Why is that so hard for anyone to understand.
The left has gained control of the language. Somehow if I don't want to pay for something you want, I am now waging a war on you. They come off a spoiled teenage brats.

So much truth to this. So much.

It's political.
Well over 90% of plans covered contraception prior to Obamacare. It was a solution looking for a problem.

That's Hobby Lobby's public stance, not the general narrative or what the OP is referring to.

It is exactly the point to the OP. We are conflating contraceptives (which the Catholic Church has issues with) to abortifacients (which evangelical Christians have issue with).
There is no war on contraceptives (and by extension, women).

You mean like Whoopee Goldberg defending Roman Polanski's rape?
This is yet another opportunity for the Obama administration to pit one group of Americans against another group of Americans. Its been their bread and butter since day one and sadly the populace is dumb enough to eat this up.
