This show turned out to be a pretty decent summer tv show. I liked the twist at the end. One thing bugs me about it though (spoilers),

how could a few state troopers take over a battleship full of marines and naval personnel? That was a little goofy.

It'll be interesting to see where they go with the show now that they have the cure. I know they have to tie up the Baltimore storyline, but that shouldn't last more the a couple of episodes at the start of season 2. I wonder where they will take to show after they get the ship and the scientist chick back.

So basically, we have a morally inept gov't resorting to devious and evil shite to "save" a society and killing people to keep the first world pleasures going and not willing to let the Nathan James cure everybody?
Looks like the crew of the Nathan James once they get away from these corrupt and evil fricksticks will have to go off the map to an undisclosed location to mass produce the cure and they'll have to figure out a way to do it without warlords and the corrupt state coming after them. They'll probably have to upgrade to a bigger ship like an Iowa class battleship or aircraft carrier for protection.

Like I said, I think they're gonna have to go off the map to an undisclosed location and try to find some allies to help them mass produce the cure and install an orderly and honest gov't.
I think they need a bigger ship for mass production and protection in addition to the James.

a carrier would be beneficial because of it's nuclear power but they don't have the man power or pilots to make it effective. a modern day destroyer trumps a ww2 battleship.

That's where in season 2, they find enough essential navy personnel to man a carrier in addition to the James in tow. This hypothetical carrier would obviously be well short of 5,000 or 4,000 sailors but they would have just enough.
We're just throwing out hypotheticals. I hate that this is a summer show. I have to wait a year to find out what happens with the Baltimore storyline. frick. It's interesting and suspenseful as shite. Michael Bay is actually doing pretty good on TV.

You would think that multiple carrier groups and subs would have been at sea during the outbreak. I hope they reveal next season what happened to the rest of the navy that led to Nathan James being the last ship.

Yep. This is a mystery they need to solve. One I hope that would be answered when discussing upgrading to a bigger ship.
A modern day destroyer in the James and an aircraft carrier paired with it to save the world would be the tits next season.

Warlords seem to be the good guys now

Completely ruined the show IMO. Doing the things they were doing before having the cure at least has a rational argument. Wanting to keep doing things that way after having the cure completely flies in the face of any and all logic and reason.

How so? Please expound.

Because they have a cure and instead of using it, they are continuing to perpetuate mass murder?
Because their plan of killing people to power the city is not sustainable for a very long time, and once the dead bodies run out there will be no workers left to create power either?
Because using the cure would get rid of the war lords, but instead they will likely have some huge battle with them on their hands over its possession?
Because by using the cure, they could expand their 100 person utopia to more than just 1 government building?
I think the better question is how does it make any sense?

quote:A little goofy? It is so spectacularly stupid that it basically ruined the season for me. These people endure all kinds of shite, find creative ways to survive, then essentially get taken hostage by a fat sweater wearing state trooper with a Glock? Seriously, that fricking sucked. Also, Rhona Mitra is hot.

There were more troopers than the one guy on the ship, but it wasn't anymore than a handful. So yeah, that was pretty dumb. I mean, I can see where most of the crew wouldn't be carrying their guns around on the ship, but you would think that at least a handful of them would stay armed considering they are just off the coast of what is essentially a post-apocalyptic world. But I have a feeling it won't take long for Casey (I forget what the XO's name is on the show) to take the ship back.
As far as the crazy government lady's intentions, I think they are were burning the bodies and keeping the best and brightest alive as a way to cull the less worthy of society. They are basically taking advantage of the virus to "better" the gene pool. At least that's the way I took their intentions.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

That and the fact that no US military ship is going to let non-military personnel carry guns on to their ship...kind of jumped the shark for me.
Overall, a good show so far. I'll watch next season. But the whole take over the ship with 5 cops was a stretch.

I guess the tv special effects monetary limits kind of forced his hand on not being able to base the show soley on explosions every 5 mins. He actually had to come up with a decent story line (or at least his writers did).
Again, I'll catch it next summer as well. The show kept my attention, and proved that you can produce a watchable tv show for the summer months.
