WTF happened to "Family Matters" throughout its run?

Show starts off as a warm, family valued comedy about middle-class African Americans living in Chicago with a nerdy, destructive little neighbor. Next thing you know, there's cloning, time travel, cast members disappearing? What the frick man? How did this show fall off so hard? Different writers/producers during the second half of seasons?

The first season is easily the worst, once Urkel caught on the show was more enjoyable.
The type of show they were shooting for at first would never as been as big.

Family Matters is one of those shows which I was in love with as a kid, but as I grew up, I watch it and go WTF IS THIS shite. That's show is so bad its not even funny

I was in Germany in the mid 90s. Try Urkel in a dubbed, high pitched German accent.
