Here's an idea of price in Dallas. You can go to their site for prices in existing cities.

Anyone know if Laffy is considering supporting Uber?

I'd hope so

although our police force doesn't have as big of a boner for DWIs as BR, our cab service is non-existent.

I have literally waited for a cab for over an hour twice. Once was tiger land and another downtown. Called back and nobody answered, so I just decided to drive home drunk. Hell, I'd get a DWI for sleeping in the car with the AC on, so why not chance it and just drive home?

The only place I have been consistently able to get a cab is at the overpass bars.

I've never even attempted to go out downtown because of the cab situation. Don't want to pay $50 for a ride home.

I'd think it will also decrease DWIs as well.

BRPD will have to increase their checkpoints to keep their revenues up

GREAT NEWS

Any idea on how much a ride would cost, do they have some sort of set rate per mile or how does that work?

I'm an uber newb but so excited about it

Did anyone else read the quote from the cab driver where she said that a wIt of over 30 minutes to be picked up wasn't unreasonable? They don't even have an argument.

As for the council woman's comment, I won't write anything to avoid the Ban Hammer.

There is a picture above from Dallas Uber. They give you a fare estimator in before you request a pickup.

How about the cab driver poster yesterday that's only argument against uber was "they will put good hard working cab drivers out of work!!"

if BR experiences a 10% dip like Seattle did, you bet your uber-using arse they will crack down on even more drinking and driving, open containers, etc

I have been hearing about Uber all over the fricking place but I have no idea what it is. Can someone, in two sentences or less, explain the ways in which Uber is better than typical cab service?

All I know is that it will blow Baton Rouge's current cab services out of the water if half of what I read about it is accurate. I can't speak for normal cities.

It's basically an app that connects customers with ride-share drivers and professional hired drivers. Drivers and customers are rated by users on their quality.

Faster and cheaper. App based service to find a ride(qualified and customer rated driver using personal car) and pay via app(debit/cc card).

You can see on the app who your driver is

See where the car is on the app
Pay only by credit card via app
Get estimate before you request car

Request car via app and it shows up minutes later

Why can't they just start working for Uber? Case solved

They wouldn't survive on a system that uses user ratings.
