Sorry but I feel like y'all have dropped the ball on this one, and are steering the OP in the wrong direction. I've been to Kaminari twice, and was unimpressed both times. Sushi Masa, in my opinion, is much better, and it's not even close. Their rolls are better, their raw is better, their salads and apps and sides are better, plus it's all made to order.

I'd say Sushi Masa >>> Nagoya >>> Kaminari

They're trying to steer me to a place where I'm a regular I was not going to go there today regardless (I'd be coming from Essen).

What's so great about Kaminari? Their rolls suck. Only thing worth a damn there is the grill.

Doesn't matter, anyway... Sushi Masa is the best of the three by far.

Really? I mean they're not as good as 15$ specialty rolls, but for a 10$ buffet they're pretty damn good.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that. I don't eat at either one anymore; I stick to Sushi Yama when I want quality and Sushi Masa when I want quantity.

If you disagree, then why are you even arguing with this jagoff?

I don't deny having a subprime bowel, but I'm not the only one in this thread who has experienced the "kaminari mud-butt." I've eaten a good bit of cheap sushi in my short life and never had a reaction like I had after eating Kaminari. It might be good for some people, but if you have a less-than-optimal digestive system, I'd steer clear.

Then definitely Ichiban or Yama. YUMMY

Or go with your original consideration of Chinese from Omi.
Garlic sauce eggplant.

Sushi Masa is the best value deal in town. There's enough on that AYCE lunch menu to build your own specialty roll. Ask for a few sauces (sriracha, spicy mayo, ponzu, and eel sauce), order either the snowcrab salad or spicy kani salad, and order any roll you like. At lunch there's no sashimi but the nigiri is fine. We really enjoy their spicy salmon hand roll (ask them to chop the salmon into small pieces) which we add crunchy batter and snowcrab to. Great deal if you don't want to spend 100 bucks on sushi for two.

That the place right next to Ichiban? I thought it closed down for awhile. I went for lunch a year or two ago after they first opened and the waiters would check on you about every hour

They do buffet style for lunch and dinner?

You probably just had a bad roll or something. I've eaten there probably 20 times and have always been fine.

Nope. It's AYCE but everything is made to order.

This intrigues me. Is it filling enough for a meal?
Would I be better served trying the spicy cumin pork on my first visit?

you should get the Chong Qin spicy chicken your first time there. It is a signature dish of sechuan restaurants and they do a really, really good one.

Last time I ate at Nagoya, I got food poisoning that caused me to miss the St. Patrick's Day parade. I stopped eating at sushi buffets after that.

Kaminari is disgusting.

When I was at LSU my go-to places were Wahada and Sushi Yama.
