bu..bu..but it's the most loaded draft in years!

But, the Pels don't need another guard who can't shoot.
Maybe. Maybe not. Rivers wasn't considered a scrub coming out of Duke.

I'd lean toward Embiid if he's available. If he's not available, I'd really question why the Pels would trade up to that spot. There isn't a SF available there that is a difference maker IMO, and taking a center outside of Embiid at that spot would be a reach.
I don't think Embiid gets past Orlando.
For us, the only useful draft spots are 1-4 or 13 back. Anything in between would result in us reaching for a draft pick.
IMHO

thinking that drafting some skinny arse athletic center with no offensive game
Dear god there's so much wrong with this.....
1. Embiid is not some skinny arse center. He is reported to be 250+
2. He has a very good offensive game. He can hit midrange shots, has great feet in the post and can actually commit moves to memory.
Injury concerns about him are fine to have, but please don't compare his game to nerlens Noel. The two couldn't be farther apart offensively

So is he more or less a Serge Ibaka type?

This won't be popular. Give me Smart and prepare for the post-EG era. Embiid's intriguing if he's there. I just have a really bad feeling there with how long his NBA career will last.
Smart is essentially a smaller Tyreke Evans. They have an almost identical game. The Pelicans need a guy who can shoot the 3 at a higher rate than 30%. Eric Gordon's skill-set is a better piece than Smart would be to the Pelicans unless they were getting rid of Evans and Evans is far more versatile than Smart.

What makes you think they can't close out games?
Tyreke can't shoot. the lane gets pretty crowded and the whistles disappear at end of games if your name isnt' Lebron.
Jrue has the potential to close games out, but haven't seen that aggressive attitude and fire from him yet. Doesn't help he was injured for most of the season.
Ryno can't create his own shot and he's not fast enough going around picks like a Ray Allen has been in the past to get a good shot off.
EG sure as shite can't do it. We're lucky if he even scores in the 2nd half. Dude puts up 12-15 points just about every first half, then disappears.
AD should have the ball in his hands down the stretch every possession. He needs to be that guy, which will make it easier on the rest of the players on the court to get opportunities to put games away if AD isn't doing it. For some reason, we didn't always give him the ball in the last two minutes......coach.
Hopefully we'll be healthy this season, AD will get even better, and we will really start to understand what we really need to contend. It's hard to say right now since we played most of the season without Ryno and Jrue.

Personally, I would rather give up less to trade to the middle of the first round and draft James Young.
I am not sure what assets we really have to get into the first round other than future picks. Maybe give up a future top 10 protected pick and Pierre to get into the mid-first round. Since this draft is so deep, a normal pick at 11 is < than the 14-17 pick in this draft.
Young is a 6'8" SF who has a very nice stroke. Seems like a guy that could fit in right away at one of our 2 biggest needs. He has the potential to lead in scoring on some nights even though he isn't a selfish player. He was the best player on the court for UK in a bunch of their games this season.

I would definitely be on board with this.

I think Young's shooting is a bit overstated but I feel like he would be a great fit regardless.

His mid range game showed good improvment after monty took the leash off and he was able to operate. Having No threats in AFA/Steam make matters worse.
We had zero spacing with those guys. Of course they'll clog the lane when you have 2 guys like that.
He was pretty damn clutch in more than a few games(ORL/OKC among others)

He definitely took over games when AD was banged up in december.

What?

He's had his moments but yeah

That's definitely a monty issue not player agreed.

Agreed there
It's really EG screwing this up IMO

Ya, I just don't see Rivers or EG as long term pieces. I think by the time they are off the team, we could have a guard line up Jrue/Reke/Smart/Shooter.... The thing I like is that all three of those guards can guard 1 & 2. Like actually do it. I agree with the shooting issue though. Whoever the 4th guard is, he would have to be a Brian Roberts type offensive scoring expert

I can understand EG...But I like Rivers and I think he coudld at least become a good 6th man for us a la Jamal Crawford.

The surgery he just had was for a stress fracture in his leg/foot.
But I think he had back issues during the season and tournament. If he can't play one season of college basketball, I'm not sure how he's going to have a long term NBA career.
Injured big men scare me. But then again, Blake Griffin came back pretty well. Although I think that was an ACL injury
As long as their isn't anything structurally wrong with Embiid's feet he should be fine. Guys like Walton and Bowie had something seriously wrong with their feet. Bill Walton's feet were misshapen and mangled before he got to the NBA and Bowie had some kind of calcium deficiency. Oden just had terrible luck. If we somehow get into the top 5 or 6, you have to take Embiid.

Would rather trade into the late first or early second and draft GRIII if we can't get a top 5 pick. I would love Stauskas if he could play the 3.

I probably would but apparently only Cleveland and Milwaukee have seen his medicals, that might scare me off.

I'd take Aaron Gordon for sure. He's been getting Shawn Marion comps and is a true SF. Dude's an athletic freak and a menace on D. What's not to love? And to the guy who said he reminds you of Aminu and has no skill in his game, you're wrong. I saw him in person last fall 3 times as I was living in Tucson. Guys better than Aminu today. His offensive game's there too, it's just hidden and he just needs somebody to unleash it. He can get to the rack so easily it is silly. The shooting will come with age. Dude's only 18! Plus he's super humble, a team player, and would be a great partner to pair with AD for years to come

I honestly would just trade into that middle range and try and get James Young.
