@venubandi, you might have some difficulty- his materials are password protected (which some people probably don't care to look for/dig up). Pretty much all LSUS materials have huge copyright warnings written on them about not sharing them out. Because of this, you might find that people are hesitant to send materials to someone who has only ever come on here to ask for syllabi and class materials. However, maybe I'm wrong and someone will send them and their passwords your way.

Lots of PMPs here. For the test, do yall think it is important to memorize all 49 processes? Given a process, I could put it in the corresponding process group, but if I had to write down all 49 processes from memory, I would undoubtedly combine or forget some.

I'm just getting started studying, and I thought my first task would be to memorize all 49, but I'm wondering to what extent this is needed.

Also, I'm almost certain, there is no need to memorize which processes are part of which knowledge areas.

requested to join the FB group 2 days ago nothing yet.(I had to create an account to join) I wanted to get jumped started on any available reading my for my upcoming classes. Happy to see many new members starting the program as well, good luck to you all on our first semester! I'm sure we will lean on this thread for info and feedback to make it through the program.

Don't start reading early. Sometimes the syllabus or topics change and it will be a waste of effort. I understand your position, and I felt the same way when I started, but you'll just drive yourself crazy. You can certainly look at things to get a feel for what it will be like, but don't actually start working on anything until the class starts. That's my $.02.

You're worrying about the wrong things for the test. You don't need to memorize all of them. However, you need to know in what order they need to be applied in (semi) real-world scenarios. The vast majority of the test is scenario based, such as "These things have happened on a project. What is the next task that needs to be performed?" And you're given 4 choices where one is easily identifiable as wrong. If you really know the PMBOK, you can eliminate another one as happening at an earlier point in the process. Then you're left with two choices, each of which needs to happen RIGHT NOW (the correct answer) or at some point in the future.

You need to know how the processes flow together and interact. All of the questions are multiple choice, so you don't have to regurgitate anything verbatim. But the test is pretty tough. I took and passed it last year, and while I normally breeze through certification tests, it took me 3.5 hours to finish, and I scored "above target" in all areas. (Only bragging a little bit, but it's to provide you with my credentials).

Well put. I know there are alot of touts out there that tell you to memorize all the areas, each input and output and all of those fine details. It may be useful in helping to discern some of the scenarios, but what I find is that is more beneficial to those without "real" PM experience. Lots of people massage their qualifications to make things count for experience, but if you truly been doing project management work, especially if it was modeled or followed some of the same format that PMBOK puts out, it won't be too hard. I recommend read through the book once or so to see what they got in there, watch some free videos on you tube, take in a study guide or two and take lots of practice tests. The practice will most likely be completely different, but will help the confidence the higher you score.
I was able to pass my first time with all above targets as well. Good luck.

This made me laugh out loud. It is obvious to me that whoever wrote the PMBOK has little to no project management experience.

ECON 705 Fanta Fassil Review:

- Weekly posts, easy A
- Every other week, group week. Easy A
- Every week, 20 question exam, Easy A or B
- Every week, video lecture to prep you for exam
- Week 4 and 7, mid/final exam. Easy A
- No interaction with Prof with exception of prep videos once a week
- He posts ancillary video links from other sites to support weekly topics which help
- Posts must be 250 words, replies 125. Effort on Group work, an hour a week.

Easy A, I do recommend. I cannot say I learned too much, but was happy with the course work load and level of the exams. I do recommend.

Econ 705 Fadi Fawaz

Fawaz is a cool dude. He wants people to succeed. He is even available for phone calls.

3 assignments each week 1 quiz, 1 excel, & 1 proctored test

You should get an easy 100% on all of the excel & quizzes since you get three opportunities on them. This counts for 60% of your final grade.

Tests can be a little tricky but weekly zoom sessions help a lot. The textbook is garbage and sometimes I had to YouTube to learn the material. I had not ever taken an economics class, calculus class, and just 1 stat class around 10 years ago.

5 hours (this includes test & quiz time) a week got me an A. YouTube the weekly topic and watch the zoom session for an A.

This was my second class in the program:
1. Acct 701 Fabio Ambrosio A 5/5
2. Econ 705 Fadi Fawaz A 4/5 (would have been a 5 but I found YouTube teachers more effective than his teaching)

Next class will be in March... any recommendations on the easier class... ISDS with Gibbs or MADM 701 with Kimberly Williams???

I will have a 2 month old and a 2 year old so that’s why I want to take the easier class.
Anyone on the fence about starting the program, do it! It’s hard working full time with a family, but it’s been very rewarding. Good luck!

Thanks for that info undkeith.

My semester was Choi for Fin 730 and Lin for ISDS 701.

Choi was an easy A. The way the course was weighted, you could bomb the three exams and still finish with an A due to weekly discussions (one post and one reply) and 2 case studies (500 word minimum). Very doable class or elective. I would probably try to have Fin 701 under my belt fist, but it certainly isn't required. I finished with an A. Hours spent per week-6-8. Difficulty level-3/5. Choi as a professor-4-5.

ISDS 701 with Lin was not a bad course. I don't personally agree with the hate he gets. I mean it's an on-line course, you can't expect too much interaction. Basically, he gives you 10-13 assignments per module (there's 3 modules total in the course) and asks you to study each and take notes. Then the module test, which is trivia-like, will be based on those assignments. I finished with an A. Hours spent per week- 3-4. Difficulty-2/5. Lin as a professor-3/5.

I recommend both courses. I have a full-time, very demanding on-call job and a very demanding 2 yr old....

Fawaz econ 705 was super easy A. Got 100% on every assignment and test without reading the chapter with exception to exam during thanksgiving lecture where he gave a weak and rushed lecture (got 8/10). Average weekly time spent was about 3 hours. Even rushed through the final week doing lecture and all exams in under 2 hours total because I knew I was basically guaranteed an A and still got 100% on those.

How much R does one need to know for FIN 740?

Does FIN 740 assume you do not know any R and start from the ground up? or does it expect you already know R (or learn it on your own)?

I do not really love programming so I am trying to avoid R as much as possible for my Data Analytics electives.

ISDS 725 walked through some exercises in R but it was definitely more of "here is what R can do" kind of lessons than one having to learn/know it well.

Thanks in advance!

Why in the world is this being downvoted? New PM's that try to follow the PMBOK quickly find themselves drowning and I find that the PMBOK is only useful for guiding a project framework. Trying to manage to the PMBOK? You're gonna have a bad time.
